1990: After meeting at an old club called THE FLAG, Geoff Pinckney and Ian Davies combined their musical skills to form GLASSHOUSE. Their idea was to produce music that was an integration of all their heroes and influences from the 80's.
A year later, with a stock of catchy synth-pop tunes, they set off as support band for GARY NUMAN, on his 'Emotion' tour. This was a great acheivement and a dream come true. Thanks to Gary they gained a lot of experience and followers. The lads had their first insight into the world that was previously out of reach. The following year had them supporting Gary again on his 'Isolate' tour in March, again they were well received.
This led to regular gigs in and around London playing to an ever increasing audience and the appearance of guitarist Pete Steer ('Shockwork' and 'En' fame).
Still as GLASSHOUSE the band continued writing and gigging until August of '96 when Pete left the band to pursue his own musical direction. Now was the time for change.
Geoff and Ian felt that GLASSHOUSE had exhausted itself and decided to start a fresh with a new name and a different attitude towards their music.
THE NINE was born and so was a new, refreshing sound, still with the influence of the 80's but in a more contemporary style.
Their change of attitude led them to signing with the popular synth-pop label A DIFFERENT DRUM, based in Provo, Utah, giving the band the chance to reach a much wider audience, taking them into America and Europe. The debut album 'Native Anger', released in 1998, firmly established them in the scene as credible songwriters.
In 2000 they recruited Neil Dansey, who, as well as a guitarist, contributed to the writing process pushing their sound further. The fruits of which resulted in another successful release - 'Dreamland' - proof that The Nine weren't afraid to experiment with their musical style and still give their audience what they've grown to expect.
For over 3 years Geoff Pinckney has pursued a solo project initially called Alien..six13 which released it's debut album, 'Establishing Alpha' in 2004. Geoff continues this project now called Alien Six - www.myspace.com/aliensix - with 2 other members - Pete Steer and Laura Cyganik.
2006 THE NINE - RIP: After much thought it has been decided that The Nine should now be considered a past project with 'SHOUT!' being the last noise from the band. All energies are to be focussed on new projects - tenek and Alien Six.
The Nine's official website and Myspace profile now only serve as a tribute to the band, it's members, followers and it's music.
On behalf of Ian Davies, Neil Dansey and Pete Steer, I'd like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the years. We had a great time and hope you did too.
For those of you who may be interested please check out the Alien Six profile and website @ www.myspace.com/aliensix and www.alien6.net.
Pete and myself (Geoff) will endeavour to keep The Nine's Myspace profile running, so stay in touch.
Love and Thanks
