Astatine

Astatine is Howard and Paul. Having met a number of years ago, they quickly discovered that they shared the same interests in music and unsurprisingly, became good friends.At some point in one of their early conversations they realised that they both had a common interest in writing/playing music, and so began a long song writing partnership, albeit on and off. During this period, the pair held a number of vocalist auditions, however they never worked out, so they took the decision to write instrumental music.It was only recently they felt that instead of writing music for fun, they could do it seriously. Whilst having a vast back catalogue of ideas and tracks, they took the decision to start from scratch, writing brand new material using the latest hardware and software tools. This new recording set-up led to the birth of Homeland 01 recording studio, followed by Homelands 02 some 3 years later after a torrent of relentless nagging up the pub from Paul. This ‘start afresh’ approach also led them to the decision that they needed a new band name, and so Astatine was born.The band have a large range of musical influences dating back to the early days of electronic music. They include Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Gary Numan, Tangerine Dream and Jean Michel Jarre, through to today’s electronic music scene with bands such as Mesh, Iris and De/Vision.Astatine are currently busy in the studio putting together brand new tracks for an EP, which is expected to be released sometime in 2007. After this, they will continue working on the production of their debut album, entitled ‘Things That We Make’. Although primarily instrumental, the band has not ruled out the possibility of using vocals at some point in the future.‘Astatine…….a long time in the making, but well worth the wait’
