BEYOND RACE Magazine is a quarterly magazine dedicated to spotlighting the independent, underground artistic culture that exists within NEW YORK CITY and beyond. We are spotlighting the many individuals, groups and collectives who have dedicated their lives to fighting the good fight through their actions and artistic expressions. As we refuse to pigeonhole ourselves by limiting our focus to a specific genre, BEYOND RACE is the voice of what’s going on for those of us “in the know,” and those of us who strive to know more. Our focus includes, but is not limited to: music, film, poetry, photography, graffiti, comedy, literature, fashion and art in all its forms. New York is full of many beautiful people and exceptional artists. BEYOND RACE highlights such people, as we tell their stories, share their viewpoints, and hear what they have to say to the world.
To answer any misgivings about the title, we are not a magazine dedicated to race. We are an arts and culture magazine dedicated to uplifting the human race, our relationship with each other and the world around us. Unfortunately in our society, people create walls within their minds to separate and differentiate people into inferior classes. The concept of race is one way this is achieved. For us to achieve enlightenment, we need to get beyond these barriers that prevent us from moving through the world and accomplishing all we were meant to achieve. The mainstream media, along with the major gatekeepers in society, all too often dictate the trends of culture while spoon feeding us manufactured art, solely produced in an attempt to make a profit. BEYOND RACE is determined to shed light on the amazing aspects of culture that are all too often overlooked, in order that they not be forgotten. We are more than a magazine. We are a movement to change the way people think by reminding them of all the exceptional people who are living their dreams and adding to the greater good of our society.
