Seldom Seen was born into the world of music first as a hip-hop artist with a cutting edge street style, before developing into a gifted up-and-coming producer. He was born in 1976 in Columbus, Ohio as Glenn P Jr. By participating in Rap and Beatbox contests in the late 80’s it sparked his interest to become a recording artist. But his interest was initially deterred by his gang affiliations in the inner city ghettos of East Columbus Ohio. Being a misguided youth, he fell into violence, drug dealing, and the dark life. He was paralyzed from the waste down and came close to death, trying to survive during the hardest times of his life. The beginning of his ascent into the music industry began at the age of 17, just one year after he moved to California. Teaming up with producer Big Jess from Watts Up Productions, Seen recorded his first rap track “Bumpin On The West Side.†under the name SoLo. At 19, he was brought in to the new label, Menes Records as a song writer for the recording artist L.A. Nash. While in the studio writing for Nash, he himself was offered to record a song. Menes records artist Swift was at the studio and jumped on the hook. Seldom Seen and Swift recorded “We Click Like Dat†(1996). This song eventually opened up the ears of Death Row Records producer Jeff Mays. Impressed by their street sound and originality, Mays offered Seldom Seen the opportunity to record three songs, one with the prospect of being placed on the soundtrack of the movie “Game Related†featuring 2pac Shakur. Disappointingly, his song never made the record because ultimately only Death Row recording artist where permitted to participate and Seldom Seen declined their offer to join the camp.By 1999, Seldom Seen began to search for a greater purpose and stumbled into a church. At this time, unsure of his future, he put down the mic for two years with the outlook of never rapping again. Unremittingly, friends and producers’ phone calls did not stop. Shortly after, producer Chris Cole presented Seldom with a track that set in motion the momentum of his emerging career. With this track, he recorded the highly prolific classic “Change.†Allured by the lyrics in “Changeâ€, long time friend and Platinum Producer D Black gave Seldom a new track to enhance the song and he ran with it.In 2001, Seldom Seen merged with friend Sho Nuff to form the rap group Dunamis. They began writing lyrics at the kitchen table and appearing in small shows and nightclubs. Backed by D Black’s beats, Sho Nuff’s stage presence and Seldom’s lyrical style, Dunamis blew up big. They went on to perform over 150 shows around the country including the KCAL 9 Lakers Playoff Post Game Show, NAACP/Def Jam Networking Event at the Def Jam Mansion, Radio drops for 92.3 The Beat Kevin Nash and Steve Harvy Los Angeles, Various Radio Commercials, the USC ‘Back to School Concert’, and the Pasadena Jazz Festival and endorsed by the clothing company Meoshe.Desiring something more, Seldom Seen redirected his focus to production. A long time friend and mentor, Keith Andes who is highly respected in the music industry spent time and blessed Seen with industry knowlage and sped his growth in track development, vocal production, mixing, and how to make hits that work. Keith Andes is most known for writing and producing the 1 Hit song “Last Night†by Az Yet from the Nutty Professor Soundtrack.Anxious to embark on a new career, Seldom Seen began driving to the Guitar Center to expirament and make beats on their Korg Triton keyboards. Soon after, he invested in his own studio. His unfading desires to become an illustrious producer paid off. Seldom’s first studio assignment was a hip-hop artist by the name of Jazz. He produced two tracks on his album and DVD. Right after finishing Jazz’s album, Seldom traveled to Phoenix Arizona to begin work with Doc Pro Entertainment. Seldom created the track for the song, “How a Pro Do It†for Doc’s newly signed artist roster Golden, Jalaya Mecca and Lady Finesse. The song crossed the threshold of Arizona’s 602Streets.com’s music charts by entering the website at number five the first day of release. Swiftly, within two days it was at number four and then number two. This was the first time Seldom was able to receive feedback from a mass audience. Scoring several perfect 10’s on the members’ comments section of the highly visited website. His next project was for an IMC Records hip-hop artist named Game. He definitively produced seven tracks. While in the studio producing Game’s album, Seldom’s work caught the attention of the young rap quartet from St. Louis named the Paypa Boi’s. The Paypa Boi’s signed a recording deal with MIB Records/Universal three months later. Without delay, they hired Seldom Seen to produce nine tracks on their highly anticipated album “Five Dollars Off†(2004). One of the songs produced by Seldom Seen blew up in St. Louis pre-release called “Pimp Potion 9†The group filmed the video directed by Chris Strickland in their hometown of St. Louis.Since then Seldom Seen has worked with many artists known and not yet known around the country from Rock Music to Neo Soul but his passion for the mic was never dead and his story is still untold!Look for his new solo project compilation “The Black Stock Exchange†to be completed by the Fall of 2008 featuring production by Multi Platinum Producer D Black and Seldom Seen and a roster of artists from the islands of Antigua to the ghettos of Columbus.Seldom Seen’s eclectic, hard-hitting style is on the verge of infiltrating the future of music.
