About Me

Rodney Mykisen has always been a passionate musician. His childhood days were constantly spent listening to the sounds of The Police, Cheap Trick, Boston, Queen, Aerosmith, Journey and much more that his mother would have playing in the background. With a music upbringing, Rodney and his brother Shane began to develop a great appreciation for music. This inspired them to begin making their own music. Rodney's passion for music grew to a higher level from the influence of his brother's music. He then picked up bands such as: Rush, Joe Satriani, Van Halen, Allman Brothers and many more. Rodney loved to go to hear his brother's band practice. There you could find him absorbing all the music and in between sets, jumping on the drums and rocking out like no ordinary 10 year old could. He carried his passion with him throughout school and learned to play guitar from Shane (who is one of the best in the Atlanta area). Rodney joined the band "Phlux" on the drums later on in his high school career and teamed up with some young, talented musicians. The band really took off in 1996 and had a highlight show in Spartanburg, SC at the Marshall Tucker Band's studio where they were called back for an encore performance. They then recorded a CD later that year in Atlanta. After high school, Rodney moved to Athens GA where he formed the band "Soul Patch" with the former bass player of Phlux. They played countless shows in Athens and others around the state of Georgia. Moving back to Atlanta in 2002, Rodney started creating his own music and learned a lot more about recording. In the spring of 2004, Rodney played guitar for a sold out concert with one of his favorite bands, Better Than Ezra! He then started recorded his own project in 2004-2006 with a few songs he wrote along with doing some covers. In 2007 he has been putting together a new project of solo material as the journey continues. I think it's safe to say, Rodney has become an all around, dedicated musician who lives for his passion.

Influences: Bands: Rush, The Police, Better Than Ezra, 311, Oasis, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, James Taylor, Tom Petty, David Gray, Pete Murray, Tonic, Live, Sublime, Phil Collins, moe., R.E.M., Asia, Joe Satriani, Coldplay, a bunch of Classic Rock, 80's Rock and early 90's.

People: I am influenced by a lot of people on guitar but, my Brother is 1st on that list for sure. Next would be Joe Satriani and Eddie Van Halen. Freakin' awesome! On Bass, Flea is just in a world by himself. Incredible bass player. Getty Lee, Rob Derhak and P-Nut also tops on the list. Last and most important, DRUMS! Neil Peart has influenced me to play drums at an early age from the first time I ever heard him play. He is the most amazing percussionists I have ever seen, hands down. Not to far behind would be Stuart Copeland, Carl Palmer and Chad Sexton.
Sounds Like: I've been told I have a unique sound and voice. I write all my own music, but I always love to do covers of some of my favorite songs!
