THE GINN SISTERS
THE GINN SISTERS (thats a hard G, like gutsy or girls) have taken the legacy of great Americana music from previous generations, within their family and beyond, and recast it with their own stories, sounds and instincts. In a world of music split between rowdy bars and the delicate music of listening rooms and songwriting contests, THE GINN SISTERS are able to turn a biker bar into a listening room. People just listen.
In the winter of 05/06 they went into BRADLEY KOPPs studio and recorded 13 songs for their June 06 release, BLOOD ORANGES. The much-anticipated follow-up to 2003s critically acclaimed GENERALLY HAPPY presents a sure-footed and mature take on a wide variety of roots music styles. This album is about great songwriting, stunning melody vocals, lush, bold harmonies, sass, and soul.
TIFFANI GINN sings lead, plays guitar and writes the songs. She has been on stage as a singer and a dancer since her earliest days. Her writing reflects her upbringing: Country, Folk, and Blues woven with delicious melodies, compelling characters, and universal experiences. She sings spot-on lead with a powerful and athletic voice that can sparkle, smolder, and drive.
BRIT GINN sings harmony and plays melodica and flute. Her harmonies blend seamlessly and beautifully. They range from traditional to quirky and are always just the right ingredient. Her virtuoso flute playing, honed by years of formal study, and homespun melodica playing lend an instrumental expression that is both masterful and instinctive.
TIFFANI and BRIT GINN have been singing and playing music together for over 20 years. Born just 13 months apart into a musical family in SCHULENBURG, TX, they grew up with a solid foundation of great music. In 2003, they brought their stunning harmonies to AUSTIN where Tiffanis songwriting and Brits already potent flute playing have both blossomed.
They followed up the release of their critically acclaimed first CD, GENERALLY HAPPY with relentless touring all over the US, playing great venues, and shows with Americana Music stars like ROBERT EARL KEEN, DELBERT MCCLINTON, and FRED EAGLESMITH.
Both of these women bring remarkable talents and skills to the table and create the magic that is THE GINN SISTERS. Their country-inflected Americana music plays well to a wide variety of audiences. Anyone enjoying ELIZA GILKYSON, THE BE GOOD TANYAS, THE GREEN CARDS, and PATTY GRIFFIN are natural fans of THE GINN SISTERS.

Sounds Like: The Ginn Sisters

GINN SISTERS
Blood Oranges
(Sweetbird)

Tiffani and Brit Ginn have had a lifetime together to perfect their head-spinning harmonizing, and its been time well spent. Born thirteen months apart, the Texas sisters are confident, soulful vocalists who sing every song like their familys honor depended on it. Tiffany penned most of Blood Oranges Bill Passalacqua co-wrote three songs, and Abi Tapia contributes another and she sings the majority of the melody vocals while Brit provides harmonies. Tiffany has a knack for down-and-out laments, which the Ginns deliver convincingly. Main street in the middle of the night / She sets stacking her memories on the bar, they sing on Broken Spirit. The sad, booze-craving protagonist of the terrific Hard Fall at least knows that love and credit werent built to last. The jaunty Im Clean has an appealing Jimmie Rodgers slacker approach, minus the yodeling. Another Ginn, mom Kari, helps out on Hard Fall and Leave Me Standing. Producer/engineer Bradley Kopp and Larry Paul Passalacqua contribute understated, tasteful guitar parts that fit nicely along-side the sisters soaring vocals.

THE GINN SISTERS
BLOOD ORANGES
SWEETBIRD RECORDS

There are few sounds sweeter than siblings harmonizing, and like dessert to their 2004 debut, Generally Happy, the Ginn Sisters' Blood Oranges is a ripe, tasty offering. They wear their small-town Texas upbringing with familial pride, while Bradley Kopp's production balances their rich vocals with austere, outstanding musicianship. Lead vocalist Tiffani wrote or co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs (Abi Tapia contributed "Get It & Go") and carries the melody vocals with panache while playing guitar on "Not My Friend," "Hard Fall," "Broken Spirit," and the witty "Down the Drain." Younger sister Brit's sweet harmony chimes high, playing Helen to Anita Carter, especially on "Leave Me Standing" and the sublime ending of "Hard Fall," but turns to melody too on "Let It Burn." Some of Blood Oranges' pure Americana moments come when Tiffani and Brit croon to guitar alone, such as on "Not My Friend" and "Dancing Shoes." "Keep me in mind, me and my dancing shoes" melt their voices over the song like honey on an August day. Blood ties are thicker than water and the Ginn Sisters are cool countrified tonic for the summertime blues. Rated 3 stars.

Wow! What a ride this is. If you dont like piercingly high harmonies, rootsy countrified music, with a strong sense of purpose and lyrical insight that embraces a feminist viewpoint, coupled to a sense of joie de vivre that is exhilaratingly heady; then dont shop here. If you want to hear two gifted sister singer songwriters with a built in harmonic sense that would make the Everly Brothers gnash their teeth in envy and send all the other burgeoning harmony singer/songwriters around back to the woodshed, then belly on up to the counter, put your money down and revel! This one is a real sleeper/keeper. www.homegrownradionj.com
