Whats up!?! My name is Antwian M. Crawford, Founder of
The Underground Poets Society (The Un.P.S.) and
Administrator of
The Un.P.S. On-Line Open Mic. I am also the Producer and On-Line DJ for our new radio station called
Sounds From The Underground (Banner Link Below). I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, but I spent most of my life in Radford, Virginia, which is the place that I grew up. I now reside in South Florida, where I have been living since 1993 after moving down from Newton, North Carolina. By day, I'm a Architectural Designer/CAD Systems Operator for an Architectural Firm in South Florida but, as you can tell, I like to read and write poetry in my spare time under the pen name of
Intellect. I use poetry as one of many ways to express myself because it has no boundaries around my creativity. If I had to describe my poetry, I would have to say that it is a mixture of rhyming techniques and philosophical thoughts. Other forms of poetry that I write include Haiku, Linked Verse, Acrostic, Monorhyme, Eckphrastic and just plain ole free-stylin'.
My writings can currently be seen on
TimBookTu, in which I was the Featured Writer of the Month (November 2000) and one of the many featured poets in the TimBookTu Anthology called
Journey to TimBookTu: An African-American Poetic Odyssey that made it's debut in the later part of 2001. My writings can also be seen on
Wordsport, in which I was the
Poet of The Month (April 2001),
Def Poetry Jam Web Site, for winning the contest for the month of
May 2001,
The Dream Chaser Poets Society (DCPS), winning the contest for the month of
January 2002 and
Poetically Speaking, in which I was the Guest Poet for Black History Month (February 2002). Most recently I was selected as the
Featured Guest Artist/Poet of the Month for the month of
July 2005 at
The Black Poetry Cafe, I was also selected as
Poet of the Month for
July by my poetic peers at
NubianPoets and finally I am delighted to find out that I won the Slam Idol Podcast - Contest... ..3 based in London, England this past year.
In other news, I am the author of a book of poetry called

Most recently, I began putting together 2 more books that will be released over the next year or so. One is my sophomore book called
Third EYEsolated and also a book of love poetry that is entitled
Love Changes. So stay tuned as I will bring you more information on that in the near future as well as the new professionally produced cd that I have in the making with producers from the U.K. to Virginia, to right here in South Florida!
