Bro. Bambuu

About Me

BAMBUU'S BIO: Born and raised in the Piano Factory, a Boston artists' community, this brother caries a powerful history of creativity. His mother is a jazz vocalist, African dancer, and ballet teacher who exposed him to rhythm, tone, and balance at a very young age and allowed him the creative freedom to pick from, and master, a variety of art forms, by studying under top jazz musicians and martial artists in the northeast. In the streets of Roxbury, Bambuu fell in love with the roots elements of hip-hop, including beat-boxing, rhyming, and singing on corners. At age 21 he left for a 7 year journey to Europe, where he released his first album with "Dark Side of the Force." In London, he recorded with Easy Mo B, a producer for artists ranging from Miles Davis to Biggie. While overseas, Bambuu preformed alongside such artists as Public Enemy, Jurassic 5, the Roots, and Wyclef Jean.
He then returned to Boston in 2002 and began work on his solo album, Forms of Translation. He now performs frequently throughout Massachusetts, both with the Foundation and as a solo artist, in venues such as the Middle East, House of Blues, Beachcomber, and the Paradise, as well as numerous universities and outdoor events. His most recent performance at Boston Common reached an audience of 30,000. Bambuu is also inspirational in his community through his work with youth. He facilitates Rythymic Reflections, a Hip-Hop/Spoken Word workshop series and instructs youth in martial arts. He is an active member of Critical Breakdown's steering committee, the Youth Workers Alliance, both Youth Programming Coordinator and acting Vice President for the United Neighbors of Lower Roxbury, along with co-founding Envision Artists.
In all aspects of his life, work, and music, Bambuu lives up to his name, moving fluidly through any storm. He passes on a sense of deep inner calm and an unwavering, effortless faith that anything is possible if we allow it to BE.
