Influences: The 1920's and 1930's: The elegance, the Jazz even though there was depression. I do sport that old ganster look when I get dapper. The late 1960's and early 1970's when the Funk was the voice of the Civil Right Movement before it went Disco. Afros, Leathers and Apple Jacks, you dig?!The 1970's: Hip-Hop and Rockers both survivors of the Civil Right Movement. Hip-Hop had break beats like Rockers had dub plates. Both had DJ's that hosted the show on the mic and played the music on the turn tables...I guess the DJ needed assistance from an MC to host the Hip-Hop Shows and needed a "selectah" to rub di dub in the dance hall. The late 1980's and early 1990's: The Golden Era of Hip-Hop that thought me how to do what I do. The Culture was then the voice of the people and had a shot at saving the world; but was later infected by the Rap Game with its vanity and materialism. That's when I began praticing my craft to immortalize the Golden tradition.I wasn't that deep into R&B until D'Angelo drop "Brown Sugar" that I considered "That real nigga R&B shit". From then, I could tolerate some Prince and I started digging back into some Al Green and some Curtis Mayfield...then came Erykah Badu...oh, it was on then! The late 1990's: the "Conscious Rapper" jump off, the "Back Pack Rap Cat": Well, I was one of them. They referred to me as a Spoken Word artist on acapella, and on beats some said: "you sound like Mos Def, kweli and 'em niggaz" (no complaints), "you be spittin' that knowledge", "you on that Common shit." But my strongest influence at that specific moment was Sizzla and Anthony B.
Sounds Like: I sound like those four songs posted above in the STANDALONE player, but I may remind you of some of my influences and you may feel their presence in my artistic expression, and again sometime you may not believe or will probably laugh if I would 've told you the influences to some of my greatest pieces.
