BIOGRAPHY
When asked to name some of his primary influences in a recent interview on Tribeca Radio, New York City based writer and performer Irv Irving answered “P.T. Barnum”. Like the famous 19th Century hoax man who authored more than ten autobiographies, Irving can be difficult to pin down. His gutsy brand of what he calls "cinematic rock n' roll" has drawn comparisons to artists as diverse as Bob Dylan and Talking Heads.
In 2003, Irv was personally invited to upstate New York to sing for folk music legend Pete Seeger after a fan sent Seeger some of Irv's lyrics. During the visit, Seeger shared stories and songs from his travels across America with Woody Guthrie in the 1940’s. Irving then disappeared to Europe where he resurfaced in 2006, playing clubs with a rock n' roll band in London and across the rest of Britain.
In 2007 Irv irving broke new musical ground with a pair of singles ("(Go Do) The Vulture" and "A Hero For Our Time") recorded at the legendary Sear Sound recording studios. 2008 sees Irving performing in New York City and throughout the East Coast, moonlighting as second guitarist for Brooklyn-based avant-garde rock band Tongs, and collaborating with Rounder Records recording artists King Wilkie.
