Bio:
"The first thing to strike you about Carolyn is her great guitar work, chord structures and melodies. Then when you delve into her lyrics there is a depth to her work that is rare." David Carr (Producer/Engineer)
Oates' first experience in a recording studio at 16 was all she needed to be sure that performing and recording her own songs was how she wanted to spend her years. By 17 she begged and borrowed to pay for her first independent EP as part of an acoustic duo, which was swiftly followed by her first solo EP.
During this time she continued to perform her own music and was also head-hunted as a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist in various bands live.
At age 20 Oates recorded her first full album "Toast" an eclectic rock debut that reflected her many musical influences. She toured for the next 18 months solid and received national airplay on independent radio stations.
Her next album "I like it here" showed a coming of age stylistically as she focussed in on an indie acoustic pop sound. This release took her to the UK to tour in both Europe and the US, with further independent radio airplay. She also released a self-titled EP whilst there. Since her relocation to Australia Carolyn is now finding new fans in the thriving Melbourne solo acoustic scene and has started pre-production on her new album.

Sounds Like: Kreuzer Magazine, Germany
"The Australian Carolyn Oates translates the singer/songwriter concept consistently: putting together great guitar work with atmosphere for the audience. The sophisticated melodies and mellow nature have hints of Sheryl Crowe. Perhaps soon cosy locations will be too small for her."

Cheap Thrills e-zine, Melbourne
"Where ever she plays people are always inspired by her songs and drawn in by her guitar work."

Leipziger Volkszeitung, Germany
"Marvellously mellow acoustic pop is what Australian songwriter Carolyn Oates brings today. She connects beautiful guitar themes with dreamlike melodies to lyrics with substance."

Crossrhythms Magazine, UK
"much loved by UK festival goers"
