My Interests

My main interest (other than my husband) is my music/writing. I have been singing since I was 9 years old. I write songs, but I currently enjoy writing stories much more. There are two things I am working on right now. The first is learning how to pick on my guitar. The second, is to write the story of mine and my husbands meeting, dating, engagement, and early married years. I am writing this for our future children. I want them to know just how seriously we took ourselves at 15 years old (yes, Eli and I have been together since we were practically in gestation), and be able to get a good laugh at our expense. If you would like to read (which of course requires commenting) the first chapters I have finished thus far the links are below:

Chapter One: A Mexican Working At "The Bell" and A Cute Kid That Was Supposed To Be In Arkansas.

Chapter Two: Post-Mortem Relationships Spy From Trees Above.

Chapter Three: Where There Is Smoke, There Is Heartache.

Regarding my music, my goal is not being the proverbial "starving artist". I will be paying to record my own album and then travel to small churches, coffee shops, and such to perform. I am not against big record labels or "the system". I just want artistic control of what I love to do, and to do that you must have fiscal control.

In between those two things is the rest of my life. My love, Eli. Our business. Our home. Our family. Our future.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Nichole Nordeman

I have this dream to one day record a song with her. She is such an amazing artist.

Lori McKenna

Saw her on Oprah on day, listening ever since.

Space Ghost soundtrack

When I was a teenager, my friend Roger T. would play this CD over and over again. So it is not so much the talent or art in this music that I like. So much as it is the repetitive way in which I was introduced to it.

Alison Krauss & Union Station

Anyone who has heard them knows why they are on this list.

Boston

The song “Smokin’” is a family favorite (for those of you trying… there is no need to read into that comment)

Steve Miller Band

Loved this band ever since Wayne’s World.

Bob Seger

Listened to him a lot when I was younger, but got back into his music when he did a duet with 3 Doors Down recently.

Sara Groves

excellent singer/songwriter.

Linkin Park

I am really liking the compilations with these guys and Jay-Z. Never really been into rap, but this stuff is excellent.

Jaime Cullum

Everybody should get his album “Twenty Something”. He does an excellent jazz like version of a Pharrell song.

Last of the Mohicans Soundtrack

Very moving

Braveheart Soundtrack

Loved the movie, loved the music.

Flogging Molly

Would love to see them live! ADDENDUM: Thanks to my friend Jen, I will be seeing Flogging Molly live in Denver on March 4th! Thanks Jen!

Tony Elenburg

I did a demo with him when I was 17. He is one of the best singer/songwriters I have ever heard... he is also hilarious!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's

Love Karen O's voice. I really like the song "Maps" but the whole album Fever To Tell is really good.

Five Iron Frenzy

So sad when they broke up...

Squirrel Nut Zippers

I used to hate the "Hell" video when it was on MTV all the time. Now I love it. The girl in this group has one of the most unique voices I have ever heard.

Jamiroquai

Everyone remembers the "Virtual Insanity" video. Now we all will remember them for the Napoleon Dynamite dance sequence.

Dido

She calms me.

Flight of the Concord's

They are from New Zealand, and do "Folk Parody". They are friggin hilarious.

    Books:

The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson

This book taught me that "You can either have your dream or your comfort", what an amazing yet simple truth.

Why Do Men Have Nipples? By Mark Leymer

Hilarious book of random medical knowledge... and yes, I already knew why men had nipples.

The Last Promise By Richard Paul Evans

This book made me want to visit Italy even more than I already do.

How To Have Confidence and Power In Dealing With People By: Les Giblin

Another one of those books that anyone bothering to be successful should read... many, many times.

A Portrait in Sepia By: Isabel Allende

This book has no chapters. Instead it is broken into three parts. I was enamored of this book from the beginning. It is historical fiction and flawlessly written. You will wish the story would never end. You will live with these characters.

Your Best Life Now By Joel Osteen

I was never a big fan of Joel Osteen, I made assumptions due to his place in televanglism. This book changed my mind. What a wonderful instruction book to living our best life.

For Women Only By Shaunti Feldhahn

I wish I would have read this before I got married. It would have saved Eli a lot of pain and long suffering on my behalf.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

She has a way with words that is astounding. My grandma Bonnie gave me this book once to take my mind off of some hard times… it worked.

The Notebook, True Believer, At First Sight all by Nicholas Sparks

I love all of these books for the love they can make you feel with the characters. I finally got the chance to meet Nicholas Sparks and have him sign my books. The picture of the meeting is on my profile.

The Sword of Truth Series: Wizards First Rule, Stone of Tears, Blood of the Fold, Temple of the Winds, Soul of the Fire, Faith of the Fallen, The Naked Empire, Chainfire all by Terry Goodkind

Eli read the first two while injured in Marine Corps boot camp. He brought them home and I happened to be bored one day and began reading them too. They are excellent Sci-Fi books even if you aren’t really into that genre, I am currently on Chainfire and am loving it..

The Meeting Place, The Sacred Shore, The Birthright, A Distant Beacon all by Janette Oke & T. Davis Bunn

    Excellent historical fiction.

This Present Darkness & The Wounded Spirit both by Frank E. Peretti

    Wonderful books.

A Wrinkle In Time & A Live Coal In the Sea both by Madeleine L'Engle

Wrinkle In Time is a classic. As for A Live Coal, I have NEVER been more emotionally moved by a story like I was this one.

Me Talk Pretty One Day & Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim both by David Sedaris

Anyone who has read Sedaris' works know just how funny he is. If you don't know you should go out right now and pick up a copy of his works. You won't regret it, I promise.

Excellent books about life in the military.

    Steal Away by Linda Hall

    Wonderful work of suspense.

No question EVERYONE should read these books... EVERYONE!

The Personality Tree by Francis Littauer

Reading this book has helped me tone down my abrasive personality, which was essential to making friends and all.

Hinds Feet in Hinds Places by Hannah Hurnard

This book got me through a VERY hard time in my life.

    Wobegon Boy by Garrison Keillor

Just like Sedaris, I will read or listen to ANYTHING that Keillor is part of. He is a brilliant and hilarious writer and story teller.

    Flyboys by James Bradley

My grandfather gave me this book. I loved it. History is ALWAYS a great read (and lesson).

A Series of Unfortunate Events Books all by Lemony Snicket

I cannot wait for my kids to read these books!

Waking the Dead & Captivating both by John Eldridge

Another author who manages to make things clearer and that EVERYONE should be familiar with.

The Monk & The Merchant by Terry Felber
