Born in Flatbush, Brooklyn to Jamaican parents, for her; music is a matter of breathing in and out. Toli Almasi was named by her god father, reggae soul super star, Keith Rowe (Stop that Train). Through out her high school years, she created her own niche in the after school arts program at the prestigious Xavier H.S. She then headed for the very rural campus of Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. There she studied and performed with the likes of Lester Bowie, Fontella Bass, The Mad Professor, Toots and The Maytals, Marshal Allen and the Sun Ra Arkestra as well as, touring extensively with a Boston based world music band.

Toli then decided to make music her main career by attended the world renown, New School Jazz Conservatory, in New York City. It was there that she would assume the stage name Toli Nameless after founding her once twelve member all–female ensemble, The Femm Nameless. “The Nameless†were to signify every female musician and unsung heroine whose name would be other wise forgotten. Got that? Good.

As the music industry drastically changed, Toli Nameless found herself learning quickly in a new world of do it yourself music. She is a record label and booking agency founder, producer, vocalist, trombone player, percussionist, arranger, bandleader, teacher, and on occasion dancer. The Discography of Toli Nameless includes over 25 releases that have sold globally. Original Recordings and live performances to date range from, Spiritual South, Antibalas, Tu-Mystic, Tamar Kali, Dj Center, Dj Kiva, The Black Rock Coalition, Larry MacDonald, Steve Turre, Kokolo, Open Thought Productions, Tubman Atnimara, Mikey Bassie, Sly and Robbie. Has also graced the stages of the following Venues: Barbican Museum (London), Club Balatuu (Montreal), Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Joes Pub, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Knitting Factory, Makor, Prospect Park Band Shell, Blue Note. Time Out London hailed Toli and her group as “Punk Funk meets Afro Beat†She has received critical acclaim through out the UK, Canada, and the US.

After the spring 2007 audition for the MTA’s, M.U.N.Y. (Music Under New York) Arts Program, Toli Nameless found herself reworking her entire band of merry women to suite to the needs of the New York City Subway performance spaces. She’s now taken her message of “Unity Music†to be tested in the true waters of the New York City Underground. Toli Nameless, and her renamed group; The Femm, have exciting shows planned ahead.
