Trumpeter Rob van de Wouw (1975) graduated in the summer of 2003 at the school of music in Rotterdam, where he has been educated by trumpeter Jarmo Hoogendijk and followed classes from, among others, Benjamin Herman and Eric Vloeimans. During his education he attended a weeklong workshop in New York, at the invitation of Carnegie Hall, where he attended classes from, among others, David Liebman, Stave Turre, Rufus Reid and Kenny Barron. As a result of his graduation he received a scholarship from the foundation†Vrienden van het Conservatoriumâ€. This scholarship was awarded to him for ‘excellent study results’ and ‘excellent artistic qualities’.
In 2007 Rob released his first solo album: Reboot your Soul. This project once started as Urban Jazz Sessions. Under that name Rob and his band performed on a monthly basis for over two years at Rotown (www.rotown.nl) in Rotterdam. On this cd (Reboot your Soul) the current R&B, Now-classic soul and Hip Hop are being combined with Jazz, for comparison think of ‘The Neptune’s meets Miles Davis while d’Angelo meets Chet Baker’.??In 2008 He recorded his second album with producer Mark de Clive Lowe which will be released in 2009.
Alongside the "Reboot Your Soul"- project Rob and his lifelong musical companion Louk Boudesteijn have been managing their own bands for years, including the Louk Boudesteijn/Rob van de Wouw quintet (B&W quintet). This quintet performed on the North Sea Jazz Festival, World port Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne (France) and more. In November of 2002 the quintet took part in the prestigious Carnegie Hall Professional Workshop for Jazz ensembles in New York. Only six ensembles were selected for this workshop worldwide, the B&W quintet was the only European delegation. As a conclusion of this workshop, they very successfully performed in Carnegie Hall. In May of 2005 the first cd of the B&W quintet ‘It’s about time’ was released (Maxanter Records). Some of Rob his compositions can be found on this cd. (www.benwquintet.nl).
In 2008 the B&W Quintet released their second album: "Force of Habits" (Embrace Recordings.
In 2004 Rob and Louk also founded the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, which they manage since then. In 2005 the first cd of this band was released, which is titled ‘Introducing’. (www.rotterdamjazzorchestra.nl)
Alongside his own projects, Rob has been a highly demanded musician/soloist in many different styles of music ever since he graduated. He toured intesively with the Latin-jazz bands Nueva Manteca and Bye-Ya, and the Cubob City Big band. At the moment he's playing with the Amsterdam based band called 'Sinas'. Their global dancefloor music can be heard on the cd released in 2008: "Global Explorations"
Furthermore he can regularly be found doing ‘his thing’ on the beats of DJ’s in many different clubs.[LOVEMYFLASH]
