ABOUT WONDER-Full Back in 1999, DJ Spinna and Bobbito were asked to spin at a party which paid tribute to the great Stevie Wonder. The duo quickly realized they had a mutual love for Little Stevie's music and, judging from the atmosphere on the dance floor that night, they knew they had a good thing going. A classic East Coast party was born ? WONDER-Full falls on the weekend of Stevie's May 13 birthday and features handpicked rare and funky covers from Spinna's and Bobbito's vaults. Lucky for us, the time has arrived once again for our West Coast ears to hear some songs in the key of life, as the duo bring their WONDER-Full party back to Mighty on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

ABOUT STEVIE WONDER Born Steveland Morriss on May 13th, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. At the age of 7, despite his blindness he learned piano, drums and harmonica. By 1954 his family moved to Detroit, where he began singing gospel & also became heavily influenced by Ray Charles and Sam Cooke. In 1961, Motown records released his first single "Fingertips" which was produced by Clarence Paul, Stevie's first mentor at Motown & the man who gave him the "Wonder" title. He continued to record hit after hit for Motown eventually establishing himself as a genius producer in his own right. Stevie continues to perform and record to this day blessing us with his innervisions.
DJ SPINNA Turning heads throughout the industry, Spinna’s sonics soon infiltrated numerous genres. Tapped by everyone from George Michael to Mary J. Blige to Motown Records (for his brilliant Michael Jackson homage to “We’re Almost Thereâ€). It’s here his production presence would flourish greatly, as Spinna would go on to revive and revise Soulful marvels like Donald Byrd Eddie Kendricks, Betty Carter, Roy Ayers and Al Jarreau. Always relevant to the current, Spinna has taken to new mixes for the J Dilla bred Platinum Pied Pipers and Bay Area songstress Goapele as with the well respected Les Nubian. Though it goes without saying that one of the more memorable mixes goes to his monumental version of Shawn Escoffery’s “Days Like Thisâ€. In turn, catapulting Spinna into his now stately, touted presence in the dance music scene. Which made the transition to BBE Records smooth as ever, for his landmark solo production album “Here To Thereâ€. It also spawned another record label, Spinna’s own, Wonderwax. A home for his soulful dance classics, the imprint came to fruition in 2003, and has seen memorable releases from contemporaries such as Rich Medina, Lady Alma, Blaze, The Free Radikalz and Selan.
BOBBITO aka Cool Bob Love The toughest question anyone can ask Bobbito Garcia is â€What do you do?†There might be ten answers! He is the Editor In Chief of Bounce: From the Playground b-ball magazine, an accomplished Vibe magazine music columnist, and the critically acclaimed author of “Where’d You Get Those? NYC’s Sneaker Culture 1960-1987†(Testify Books). He is a world-class club DJ (monthly @ Apt). He is a basketball performer at NBA halftime shows (Dallas Mavericks, NY Knicks) and on TV commercials (Nike, NBA on TNT), who self-produced a dribbling instructional DVD (Bobbito’s Basics to Boogie). He is the announcer for EA Sports’ “NBA Street†video game and for ESPN 2’s “It’s the Shoes†series. Not done yet.He is a feature film actor (“Prison Songâ€, “Summer of Samâ€) and music consultant (“25th Hourâ€, "Sneaker Heads").And for fun, he dances with the world-renowned Rock Steady Crew. Whew!
CHUY GOMEZ The DJ is No. 1 among younger listeners, ages 18 to 34. What makes him so popular? It could be his boundless energy, strong local ties, longevity and an outgoing, approachable personality. But the thing that resonates with the underground is his commitment to Bay Area Hip Hop, Soul and R&B scene. Back in the day when everyone was playing with G.I. Joe & Cabbage Patch dolls, Chuy was on the radio, TV, and in the clubs pushing the sound of what were once unknown names. Chuy was beyond a trend setter or taste maker, he was literally laying the ground work for the Bay Area by rocking Heiro, Del, Goapelle, Mac Dre and tons of other unknowns who would come to be household names.
HAKOBO To say that San Francisco's theCulprits are the underground's poster children for hot international music would be an understatement. Tokyo Component & Hakobo a.k.a. The Culprits, have been biding their time and paying their dues by bringing out acts such as Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Little Louie Vega, Kenny Dope and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Those in "the know" are aware that these names are nothing to scoff at. Those without soul definitely need not apply. The Culprits hit it hard on all accounts by bringing the best in multiple genres from funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, house to broken beat. With such refined tastes in music, one might think that these guys come from places like Canada, Japan or Mexico. Well, actually, they do, and lucky for us Bay Area natives, they've got their hands deep into San Francisco's nightlife and were ranked by 7x7 Magazine as having one of the hottest Friday nights in the city this year.
MIGHTY Voted not only Best Club in the US, San Francisco, and California, Mighty is one a dope contender for SF Style club. A collage of graf, changing art installations, metal bars, underground parties like Wonder-Full SF, Soul Slam, and an arsenal of speakers, it's no wonder why Mighty is our favorite club! You're not going to find the glam and glitz you might expect at such a highly regarded club, instead you're gonna find dope underground parties, the best music, drinks, and art, no cheeseballs in leather outfits, all served up w/a smile!
