The last man to hold both the Welterweight & Middleweight titles for the now defunct Pride Fighting Championships, Dan Henderson is the only athlete in major mixed martial arts competition to simultaneously possess crowns in two weight divisions.
Having won the 183-pound title in 2005, Henderson made mixed martial arts history on February 24, 2007, knocking out Wanderlei Silva to claim the 205-pound world title, as well.
A world-renowned mixed martial artist, Henderson presently competes for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In September 2007, he lost a five-round decision to Quinton Jackson in a light heavyweight unification bout. On March 1, 2008, Dan will challenge UFC champion Anderson Silva for the welterweight title.
Henderson owns more major tournament titles than any other athlete in the sport?s history. He has won four international MMA tournaments in three weight divisions?heavyweight, middleweight and welterweight.
Consistently ranked as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in all of mixed martial arts, Henderson has compiled a 22-6 record versus elite competition since 1997. A former Greco Roman wrestler, Henderson won multiple national titles and represented the United States in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.
Distinguished by his ferocity in the ring and his humility outside of it, Henderson is one of the most respected and admired fighters in MMA. He co-founded the Team Quest Fight Club with Matt Lindland and Randy Couture in 2000, and owns Team Quest MMA Fitness in Murrieta, CA (www.teamquestmma.com) and the Clinch Gear apparel brand (www.clinchgear.com) .
