Team Quest light heavyweight Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, 23, was born in the Republic of Cameroon, a former French colony situated along the west coast of central Africa. In 2001, Sokoudjou moved to the United States to pursue his Olympic aspirations in Judo. Later that year, at the age of 17, he won the U.S. Open Judo Championships in the open weight division. He earned a bronze medal in 2003.
Among Sokoudjou’s many accomplishments in international Judo competition includes a victory over two-time World Champion and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Shinichi Shinohara of Japan. Due to visa complications, Sokoudjou was unable to compete in the 2004 Olympic Trials and turned his focus to the sport of mixed martial arts.
At PRIDE 33, Sokoudjou, 4-1, shocked the mixed martial arts world by knocking out Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in just 23 seconds. In his encore performance at PRIDE 34, Thierry knocked out Ricardo Arona less than two minutes into the fight.
Sokoudjou lives in Temecula, Calif., and trains at the Team Quest MMA Fitness
