NEW RELEASES - LHP-16 - "Lightwells" by Andrew Paine and Alistair Crosbie is now available !!!.
I am a Scottish musician presently enjoying a period of high productivity and fruitful collaboration. I suppose the correct bracket would be "experimental".
In the last 2 years or so, a hefty chunk of my music has been released on my own Lefthand Pressings imprint with 16 titles having been made available through this channel. A full recent (2005 onwards) discography, including all LHP releases is below.
Further excerpts and full ordering information for LHP releases can be found at a dedicated page here . RECENT RELEASES
NEW!!!! - Lightwells by Andrew Paine and Alistair Crosbie
"Lightwells" is a psych/prog drift through a red sand landscape which sees us packing our guitars and our shortwave radios and travelling upstream of the Earth where the columns glow and chaotic elements of summer collide until we reach The Rose City, lanterns a-glow and six floors higher than we started. I think it's our best yet - it's certainly our richest in sonic terms and probably our most fully realised. For the first time, we actually played together in the same room for the recording and I reckon you can hear it. Numbered limited edition of 50 in card foldover with photographic print attached in thick PVC wallet.
Heavy Glass by Eye Shaking Kingdom - limited edition of 80 C24 tapes on Arbor - it seems this one went out of print in a flash but it is available from various distributors including the Eclipse and Fusetron (looks like Volcanic Tongue have sold out) so best to try one of those. What a strange state of affairs to have something vanish so fast.
LHP - 15 - As I Remember Nothing, Nothing Happened
A single track drone, exploring selective memory and isolating the point at which a thought leaves your head for the last time. Minimal, linear. Limited to 40 numbered copies, in line with the new LHP policy. Only two or three of these left
Sad Faces Of The Moon cassette
The Peasant Magik imprint has newly released this 30 minute 2-part piece, exploring the slow rise and gentle decline of everything. Have been delighted by a number of very positive reviews of this release and there aren't many left so go see 'em here now.
How To Fall Without Hurting Yourself (The Lonesome Age Of Mirrors Volume 3)
The Lonesome Age Of Mirrors series is now concluded with the release of Volume 3. "HTFWHY" consists of 4 tracks, moving from a desolate piano solo, through insistant bass riffs, monolithic slabs of processed hum and howl and into echoing decaying subspace.
Ascension Ceremony (Epilogue To The Lonesome Age Of Mirrors)
A single 22 minute track called "No More Winter", intended to represent the slow sunrise of a new day. David Keenan writes thus for Volcanic Tongue: "a single piece of phased solitary drone shot through with fragments of barely-there melodies that explode with all of the slow-motion grace of sunlight climbing tenement walls" which is exactly what I was going for, happily enough. Due to its comparative brevity, this one is £3
Forest Of Swollen Eyes cassette on Sick Head
. "Solo artist, rabid collaborator and Eye Shaking Kingdom member Alistair Crosbie continues his increasingly unnerving run of killer releases with "Forest of Swollen Eyes. Split across 5 tracks, the tape is as eclectic as those in the know will have come to expect. This release packs an array of intensities and textures which will take an open being to surprising zones whilst somehow flowing unmistakably outwards from the uncomfortable recesses of this musical brainbox. From spinning, undulating, multi-tonal textures to minimal percussive urgency, the vibrations are all deeply personal and highly emotive". Huge thanks to R for those words and for putting this one out. Not available from me, please see Sick Head for this one.
I also contributed 3 songs to the Sonic Oyster release "A Glasgow Wassail", bringing together Christmas themed songs by Richard Youngs, Andrew Paine, Tight Meat and Heather Leigh Murray and yours truly. This is now sold out.
Treenails by Andrew Paine and Alistair Crosbie on Sonic Oyster Records.
11 tracks of piano atmospheres, nautical memories and black-note excursions. Our third album and, in my opinion, our best to date. Go see Sonic Oyster Records now.
Standard Procedure In The Hours Of Darkness by Alec Cheer & Alistair Crosbie on Lefthand Pressings
First fruits of a brand new hook-up, occasionally known as AC/AC. 5 tracks of autumnal organic drone, warm afternoons and redrawn landscapes. 41 minutes, all copies in handmade card package with one of two A. Cheer drawings on the front. While stocks last, each copy comes with a fine AC/AC badge!
Disused by Alistair Crosbie & Brian Lavelle on Lefthand Pressings
First full length release since 1998 and the first under their own names from the duo formerly known as Inversion. 2 lengthy monochromatic drone swells, mapping the architecture of rust and the decay of everything. Just short of 59 minutes, each copy comes in a handmade card package with an original photograph affixed to the front.
"musicforlighthouses" cassette on Quinquaginta . "[A] 30 minute suite of two contrasting parts, composed entirely from electronic feedback sessions recorded earlier this year. Pursuing the purity of the drone with what seems a religious fervour, Alistair has produced another beautiful release." (www.quinquaginta.com). Enormous thanks to Brian Lavelle for releasing this, the second in his series of professionally manufactured cassettes on this new imprint. Edition of 50 numbered copies - available direct from Quinquaginta or from Volcanic Tongue. Full ordering information here .
LHP-10/Sick Head 10 - "With Metal And Swordlight" by EYE SHAKING KINGDOM LP (yup, that's right, LP! Seemed like a good idea at the time!) 4 tracks of distress-static, casio magic and lift-shaft plunge electronics. "Aspects of Chris Corsano's Blood Pressure, Richard Youngs' "Alban Stands Here" and Sun Ra's most gloriously fucked astral fantasias combine with the kind of eviscerating amplifier destruction more associated with prime Dead C, Ascension and Skullflower for a side that matches electrified late-60s fire with whiplashed 21st century electricity. Excellent." - Volcanic Tongue
Coming later this year
Seven Starlings More (C46 - Tape Fiend - due in the next few months)
Ashenground (CDR - Basses Frequencies - due in the next few months)
musicforshipwrecks (CDR - AFE - due around October)
Wanderlight Falls (Double CDR - LHP-17 - October/November-time, all being well)
A new collaboration with Alec Cheer is underway, an Inversion retrospective is in progress, some remixes for Susan Matthews have been completed for a future release - more on that soon - and there will hopefully be a little treat from myself and Mr Minoise maybe later in the year, maybe next year instead. There's a couple more things besides, more news when things are approaching completion/release.
