About Me

Widescreen Reason's
" 'Widescreen Reason': This excellent five-song EP throws thoughtful songwriting onto a sonic dreamscape comprised of layered instruments and harmonizing vocals. Sadly, the disc's release date was stunted when the band's drummer Matt Steele died of brain cancer a few months ago. But we know he's in heaven now, listeninng to musical magic he helped create on this debut. See widescreenreason.com."

WIDESCREEN REASON- BIO
We play in a hole in the floor, a lot like a bomb shelter except moldy. We scribble verses on the wall because it feels reckless. And empty a gallon of water out of the de-humidifier every time we play because it feels responsible. It is near the second train station of our little upwardly mobile coastal town, the one where the tourists do not get off. The one by the airport and the warehouses. We go there sometimes, but not all that often. Mostly as therapy, because we have problems, mostly ones that we like to talk about, and drink a beer about, and sometimes play music about. And sometimes the music sucks, and other times it doesn’t. Regardless, problems keep coming and going. Regardless, we keep going to the bomb shelter.
We are: Matt, the sensitive drummer who wanted to make rock music, but has resigned that this mellow vibe music is good for his soul too. Gabe the dreaming man-singer who wanted to change the world by being optimistic, but is surrounded by the realistic. Brad the fiscally conservative bass player who wanted to make money playing music, but decided to play 6-minute songs instead. Andy the well-balanced artist guitarist who just wanted to make everyone happy. And Dana the under-realized woman-singer who only wanted to write songs that would say the things that she thinks but would not say in person.
The meek shall inherit the earth and shall write music about it until they do.
BIO WRITTEN BY BASSIST BRAD MCCARTER
Widescreen Reason is a five-member band that mixes melody and harmony upon a very dreamy and ambient backdrop of fine instrumentation. It has morphed from many bands into one to develop a signature gentle head-bobbing, foot-tapping sound. It is a sound that has been compared to the Over the Rhine, Aimee Mann, and Jon Brion. Listeners fall into a dreamy retreat while hearing this band’s patient, honest, yet hopeful self-titled debut (2005).
This self-titled debut EP is released by silent film records (SFR). It's dreamy music for the soul. It was recorded at Good Times Studio and Buonopasta .
