I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Suburban Minneapolis boy. Did 20 years in USAF. Retired to central Missouri. WOW! I've changed since high school! Who'd a thunk it? Married once and continuously in 1981. After being a partying hedonist, I got saved by Jesus, became a junior high (of all ages!) youth group leader and deacon in a church, got a Master's degree in history, working at a public library, two grown kids, and even own my own place --with woods, field and pond and two houses. I've been extremely blessed! If you were to ask my old friends if I'm the same Paul they knew, they'd likely say, "Not even close!"I'm a Christian music enthusiast who's discovered that Christian music is NOT all that syrupy-sweet soft and easy, bright and cheery stuff you normally hear on the radio. And it's not the second rate stuff by people who couldn't make it in the mainstream like lots of it used to be. Ask me about it. I'd love to help get you into it too. It's gone quite a way to change my life. After all, you do become what you fill your head with.Christian rock is great, but Jesus is THE Rock!

My Interests

Christian music that transcends the sticky-sweet easy-listening stereotype. That's not to say, however, that you won't find ALL types of musicians on my friends list. I also enjoy maintaining my 33 acres of woods, field, pond, etc. in a people-friendly manner.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who wants to share Christian music info, ideas, etc. And, of course, Jesus, but to me, that's a no-brainer.

Music:

I used to be an old-school classic rock lover: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Beatles, King Crimson, Moody Blues, ZZ Top and so on.My favorites are now Christian or "clean" bands/artists, but still lean toward a classic rock sound. Favorite bands/artists include, but are definitely not limited to: Larry Norman, Ashley Cleveland, Steve Taylor, Eowyn, Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys, ApologetiX, New Jerusalem, Glass Harp, Starflyer 59, Michael Knott, Lifesavers, Seventh Angel, Sarah Masen, Believable Picnic, Clear, Waterdeep, Everlife, Cadet, Soulfood 76, Bumblepuppy, Wahba, Paisley Yankolovich, Raging Grace, Paige, Jaci Velasquez, Fusebox, Disciple, Trisha Eros, Global Wave System, Miss Angie, Big Tent Revival, Ginny Owens, T-Bone, Sackcloth Fashion, Joy Williams, 4th Avenue Jones, Bride, Dale Thompson and the Kentucky Cadillacs, Paul Wright, Rock and Roll Worship Circus, The Choir, Adam Again, The Listening, Jeni Varnadeau, Guardian, Aleixa, Terry Taylor, Lost Dogs, Big Al Cherry, Saving Jane, Tait, Matthew West, Hot Pink Turtle, Christine Glass, Gretchen, Todd Agnew, Dead Artist Syndrome, The Benjamin Gate, The Clumsy Lovers, Charlie Peacock, The Swirling Eddies, The Choir, G.S.Megaphone, Elder, Grammatrain, Jessica McLean, Charity Von, Breaking the Silence, Chevelle, Pillar, Hokus Pick, P.F.R., SHEL, JJ Heller, Third Day, Cloudchase, Superchick, Alice Cooper (his more recent stuff), Inner Flame, Thelma's Dog, Empty Tomb --now called The Recycled, Christian County Overflow, Ashley Reynolds. And, of course, Chuck Holland !

Movies:

Veggie Tales, Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Tenth Kingdom, Monsters Inc., Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Second Chance, almost any Monty Python, and other relatively clean comedies and stuff.

Television:

Only stuff I can put in a DVD or video player. I've been without cable, antenna, or satellite dish since 2000, and love it! I don't see how people have time for television anymore.

Books:

Of course, the Holy Bible (Old and New Testaments only, and NOT those denomination-peculiar translations like "New World" or "Inspired", or added "testaments"). Then there's 1066 and All That and Bach, Beethoven and the Boys. Of course, I like upper-midwest (USA) regional humor. Favorite author: Patrick McManus.

Heroes:

Jesus, and Paul (the Biblical Jesus and Paul). Jesus: So perfect and lovable He made all the religious leaders mad. So loving He accepts anyone who accepts Him. Paul: Fanatic Christian-hunter, until Jesus had a little talk with him in Acts 9. Wow! Don't let an ugly past keep you from serving Jesus!

Global Warming

Dang, we should've nipped this global warming thing in the bud back when the mastodons started dying off and my old home state of Minnesota was still under the big glacier.  OK, seriously now.&nb...

I Met Me!

I took a walk in the woods yesterday afternoon, and took my .22 revolver with me.  I often take it because of a nasty pack of dogs that regularly hunts my woods.  I've got deer, woodcocks, n...

SHEL

I’d probably not have met this band were it not for my stumbling into an interest in a southern Gospel radio station (KYRV).  I started hunting for southern Gospel, bluegrass and other...

Shock Rock!

I came from Minnesota with no banjo on my knee&  I'd never been into country music, southern gospel or bluegrass.  Bluegrass, however, has been slowly creeping into my listening range.&n...

Short Pet Peeve

"Lynyrd Skynyrd" There are two "y"s in each word.   It's not Leonard.  It's not Lynard.  It's not Lynrd.  It's not Linerd.  It's not Gilgamesh. Why can't people spell it like...

The Belgian Problem

So what's the whole Belgium thing?  For being in total lack for government, it seems to be getting along OK.  The reason they can't decide on any government is that they first have to decide...

Id Better Behave!

I've been trying to replace a garbage disposal.  About a week ago, the inlet for the dishwasher corroded off, and I got a water-spray all over the inside of the cabinet under the sink.  We f...

Branson

We just got back from a visit to Branson, Missouri. I'm not really into Southern Gospel, lounge music, nor other big shows, but we got a good deal on a motel stay if we listened to a timeshare sales ...

Sorry Girls

I'm sorry girls, but in some circumstances, I judge, or discern, based solely on appearance.  It seems many of you can't afford to clothe yourselves in a modest manner, but when I see lots of exp...
