McPherson Struts

Alabama Cowpunk

About Me

McPherson Struts’ high-proof, drunk-n-sexy rock music will notch up to the next level with the release of “The Gear-Jammin', Door-Slammin', Nitro-Burning Genius of McPherson Struts”
Cranking out whiskey-drenched Alabama Cowpunk with muscle and punch, the band delivers rollicking tunes about women, partying, women, partying and whatever else seems like a barrelful of fun.
The music is larger than life with huge, rolling grooves, guitar riffs more potent than moonshine, gritty persona, full-bodied vocals, rough-and-tumble lyrics and a packed saloon’s worth of energy.
McPherson Struts first reared its head in Atlanta, Ga., and took its sound all across the Southeast before finally settling down in San Diego. Well, settling down might not be the right word for it. Let’s just say the band relocated. McPherson Struts still plays hard and plays music for folks who play hard.
The band’s debut album “Top Fuel Boogie” nabbed a 2001 nomination from the San Diego Music Awards for best rock album and also grabbed a nomination for best roots rock band. McPherson Struts followed up the success of “Top Fuel Boogie” with 2005’s EP “Shocker.” Now they’re getting the party started with “High-Octane American Rock-N-Roll Vol. 1,” due out Summer 2008.
McPherson Struts has shared the stage with the likes of Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), George Thorogood, FEAR, Agent Orange and Nashville Pussy and has headlined its fair share of regional and national dates. The group is currently working with A&R Select, the world’s leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Influences:

Sounds Like: Press & Reviews“A delightfully deranged country/punkabilly band, these guys are like Jason’s Scorchers, scattered and smothered and covered with the Circle Jerks.” – Creative Loafing, Atlanta weekly

“The debut CD (Top Fuel Boogie) by McPherson Struts rips, kicking off with the crunchy tune, ‘A Way With Words.’ Buck, the singer, sure does have a way with words. The lyrics are sharp and funny. ‘Goin’ Blind,’ an ode to masturbators everywhere, is a slow grindin’ mean S.O.B. and ‘Mean Drunk’ has a high revving hillbilly beat with a punk edge. If you like heavy tunage, pick this one up pronto!” – S.D. Reader, San Diego weekly

“McPherson Struts, led by a Southern twanged, whiskey-rasped front man extraordinaire, Buck McPherson, is a white-hot, white-trash extravaganza in the vein of bands like the Supersuckers or Nashville Pussy.” – Destroy All Monthly, Los Angeles music monthly

“Stay gold Ponyboy, because this shit is greased up and ready to go. ‘Top Fuel Boogie,’ holding an obvious influence of music from the ’50s, sent me back to my parent’s prom. If old-fashioned rock-n-roll, fueled by a little bit of booze, isn’t your thing, stay home and argue about who gets to be the thimble in your game of Monopoly. I’m going to get drunk with McPherson Struts … God Bless America!” – Revolt in Style; Arizona, Nevada and California music and fashion monthly

Top Fuel Boogie – “Make no mistake about it, what we’ve got here is 38 minutes of rockabilly-country-metal-punk-grunge-hotrod inflected bar band music at it’s finest, yes finest. It don’t come no finer! Torrid, nasty, hot, relentless bang, bang, bang with an occasional twang!” – SLAMM, San Diego lifestyle and music magazine
