With the release of Forward Motion, Davison/Coleman signal that they're on to something special; a deeply musical expression of sincerity coupled with poignant lyrics, superb performances, and a sparse but lush arrangement style that is beautifully warm and lends a classic and ageless quality to the tracks. This largely acoustic focused album features the warm clear voice of Lynn Davison (vocals, keyboards) and the exotic sound of the Laud which falls somewhere between a 12-string guitar and mandolin - is often called magical delivered to the listener with virtuosity by Cole Coleman (Laud, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Davison shows her accomplished musicianship with rich, layered vocal arrangements while the duo combine their talents for orchestration.
Album Synopsis - You & I And All The World opens the album and clearly announces to the listener a new sound and style that will take them on a journey; Castles In The Sand continues with impressive lyrical twists and attention grabbing orchestral arrangements; Colemans Laud is captivating on Cest La Vie and the songs chorus is one of the finest on the album; Coleman takes the lead-vocal spot for their charming remake of Cat Stevens' song Moonshadow; Heal is an album highlight, a spacey spine-tingling song with a beautiful keyboard based arrangement; One More Day is introduced with a lovely Laud passage and has Coleman sharing lead-vocals with Davison in a song detailing an uncertain future; "Cryin'" is a quirkier, neo-Baroque-waltz with poignant lyrics about the sadness of the relationship breakup cycle; the title track Forward Motion is up next and offers a powerful orchestral arrangement; Our Way Back Home" introduces a Zeppelin-esque acoustic character, a lovely chorus, and is a true epic masterpiece; Sanctuary while simpler, is a lovely mini-epic and carries one away with its superb vocal arrangement; "Our Leaving is the perfect album closer, featuring a delightful sing-song chorus illustrating the bitter sweetness in parting ways with someone dear to you.
For Fans Of - Those that enjoy acoustic music without unnecessary folksiness, not to mention songwriting of the highest quality will enjoy this album immensely. The songs have a likeable, bittersweet quality to them that leaves the listener moved, relaxed and uplifted all at the same time. Forward Motion is an album of beauty and warmth.
A Must Have - For those seeking that rare artist who is unique; guitar enthusiasts looking for an innovative player; those who enjoy sophisticated singer/songwriters; classic and prog-rock fans; and those who want to be drawn in and carried away on a moving journey will be pleased to discover this talented duo.
