About Me

For some 27 years, Noah Stone's parents rented a little, romantic, rustic cabin in Laurel Canyon from Joni Mitchell. It was there she wrote the albums "Clouds" and "Ladies of the Canyon." She lived there with Graham Nash and it was the very, very, very fine house of Graham's "Our House." Noah lived there for the first 18 years of his life. He has fond memories of Joni coming over and showing him little songs on the piano.Noah got a cheap Les Paul-copy when he was five-years old and started writing songs. They weren't quite on the level of "Our House" but the first one, "Land of the Flowers" at least captured something of the California folk-rock aesthetic. In 1995, Noah Stone released an album on World Domination Records titled Love That Smile Off Your Face. His song, "Dark & Brooding" appeared in the movie, Empire Records with Liv Tyler and Rene Zellweger. In 1999, Stone founded Artists Against Piracy and put his music on hold. AAP was a coalition of over 100 major label recording artists dedicated to promoting the value of music online. Stone later merged the organization with Don Henley's Recording Artists Coalition and acted as its Executive Director. Stone and Henley lobbied lawmakers on behalf of recording artists and, when Henley appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Stone helped craft his testimony.Eventually, Stone grew weary of helping those more fortunate than he and he has returned to what he loves best, making music. Little Revolution, Stone's new album, on which he plays all the instruments is available online and in James Perse stores. These are a few of the songs."* * * *" American Songwriter MagazineFrom Bluerailroad.com: He's a passionate and poignant songwriter, and also a richly gifted producer who plays almost every instrument here. It all starts with the songs, and these ones are solidly strong. Then comes the production, which is phenomenal. The man knows how to construct compelling soundscapes that serve as ideal foundations for his songs without overwhelming them. Unlike other self-hatched projects, this one flows with a soulful and organic integrity that is manna for the heart. "Married To A Mystery," based on a famous quote by Leonard Cohen about songwriting ("If I knew where the good songs came from, I'd go there more often. It's much like the life of a Catholic nun; you're married to a mystery.") has a delicately unfolding melody that grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go. Wherever good songs come from, Stone went there for this one. Its elusive melody erupts into a golden chorus that gets better with every listening. Rolling rhythms propel the declamatory lyrics into a rich vocal tapestry and explosively elegant guitar solo. (Mr. Cohen has heard the song, and praised Noah for its honesty.) "Paula" is a wistful poem of sad jubilance; the sorrow of lost love mingled with the joyful connection with the past. The title song weds a restrained fervor with a martial drum-bass groove and shape-shifting textures that contrast the inconsequence of mundane techno-times with the eternal hunger for change, a yearning etched by a haunting ascending riff. "Unshakeable" has a lithe Lindsey Buckingham-like melodic dynamism bolstered by a cumbersome-buoyant bass-thick groove; it's light and heavy simultaneously, and like all of these songs and tracks, is evidence of a serious artist at work, and at play. -Paul Zollo Buy and download songs from my Snocap store!

Hmmm... Well, I grew up with a lot of music. My first and most powerful influences were Carole King's "Really Rosie" and Nilson's "The Point." My parents played a lot of Beatles, Lennon, Steely Dan, Bob Marley (met him once), The Police, Tom Petty, AC/DC... I was a member of the KISS Army. Sting singing "Message in a Bottle" in The Secret Policeman's Other Ball was a pivotal moment for me. Gary Myrick. Prince and the Revolution. Peter Gabriel. The Smiths. XTC. Yes. Jackson Browne. Cat Stevens. Joni Mitchell. Bob Dylan. CSN(Y). Fleetwood Mac. Simon and Garfunkel Richard Thompson. Squeeze. Jethro Tull. Bruce Cockburn. Jane Siberry ("The Walking"). Bob Geldof. Pink Floyd. Rickie Lee Jones. Suzanne Vega. Michael Penn. Tom Waits. I think those are probably the ingredients in my cupboard.
