SHAWNA LEE

Kathryn Wint also known as Shawna Lee was born October 18, 1983 and hails from Montego Bay, St. James though spent more than half her life in the lively city of Kingston. At the age of 4 she received her first keyboard, which she taught herself how to play a wide variety of Country and Western Classics. It was through this medium that she would attempt at writing her own lyrics by toying with the original versions and personalizing them. Her father though was an avid music fan of R&B classics and many Jazz musicians and so vocally went in that direction. Throughout her scholastic life she was evidentially musical. She joined the choir in prep school and appeared on a television Christmas Special, as well as sang at funerals. In high school she joined the choir also and was quite active in choir events. Kathryn was always scribbling lyrics in the back of her school notebooks and would sing during her lunch breaks. She was always aware of which artist had which song on the charts and would openly critic songs from both an artist and fan viewpoint and anything else which was taking place in the music industry locally or in other countries. At age 14 Kathryn left Jamaica for Guyana where she did not join the choir but she learnt to play instruments with the school band. She learned to play the drum set and the steel pan. On returning to Jamaica at the age of 16 Kathryn learned how to use sound system equipment from her neighbour at the time that had a small sound system. Kathryn learnt all there was to know about that aspect of the industry and from then wanted to learn every other aspect of the music industry. By the age of 18 she began networking and working with artists in the genre of dancehall. To much dismay she went back to what she knew best soothing sounds of R&B and Jazz.
