Studying in Suzhou, China, near Shanghai, and working for a local mag, a newspaper, tutoring, translating, but not selling myself as a duck. Although sometimes I wish I was, cuz some of the chicks here... This profile was edited with MySpace Profile Editor MySpace Profile Editor

My Interests

Learning hanzi, reading hanzi. Listening to Handsomeboy Technique. Anything Simon Leys. Ping Pong. Learning Spanish from Yohnny, my Venezuelan friend who himself is losing it. Learning Sen Dai and seeing how many times someone can stare me down. Going to Shanghai. Jacques Tati. Coming back from Shanghai. Travelling of course. Meeting you.

I'd like to meet:

Simon Leys, Nicholas Krystoff, Lu Xun, Jean Gabin, Air, The Avalanches (and ask them why they haven't put out a new album yet). And obviously Ken Dryden. The governmental bodies of the PRC (People's Republic of ???) Falun Gong movers and shakers and freedom fighters and cooks and lovely people who smell different.

Music:

The Avalanches, The Sea and the Cake, Boards of Canada, Handsomeboy Technique, Vivaldi (obviously since Winter in Oldboy shook me) Colleen, Charles Trenet, Annie, Three Suns, Air, 33hz, United Future Organization, Kahimi Karie, ELO, Faze Action, DJ Frane, Zero 7, Mozez, Lyrics Born, MF Doom, DJ Cam, Mark Farina, Sigur Ros, Ghetto Pony, Capsule, Sufjan Stevens, Dimitri From Paris, Mulatu Astatke, Panache, Playgroup, Count Bass-D, Sam Prekop, Prefuse 73, just found out about Holly O (beautiful voice), Beck, Nina Simone, Henri Salvadore, Hinterland sound bites from Canada.

Movies:

400 Coups, Big Trouble in Little China, El Topo, The Phantom Tollbooth, American Ninja 2, Top Gun, Grey Gardens, Hearts & Minds, Burden of Dreams, Au Hasard Balthazar (saddest movie ever), Wild Strawberries, Trois Couleurs, Punishment Park, original Assault on Precinct 13, Invasions Barbares, Elvis Gratton. God bless Quebec film.

Television:

The only TV I can watch in China is the Daily Show from my laptop. So, that. The Sopranos, a long time ago. Six Feet Under, a long time ago. What is up with this Lost obsession? Scary.

Books:

Chinese Shadows. Cuba Libre. China Wakes. Zorba the Greek. Hardy Boys when I want to think of my lockerroom days. Lu Xun short stories and critical essays. Cat's Cradle. Anything Rushdie. Le Prisonier de Mao. Moby Dick. A Tale of a Tub. 1984. America 2014 - Gotta read this book. Whatever. Whatever. Anything Vonnegut. My neighbour's stupid incestuous poetry carnet while I'm taking a shit. The Economist. Photography today. Woman's World. Any philosophy stuff that I've forgotten, like Emerson. I'm reading Sand and Foam by Kahlid Gibran right now. Try reading Giving and Taking, in his book Sand & Foam. I can't understand it. If you do, can you let me know? I'd like to be out of the dark forest.

Heroes:

Jacques Lu Cont, all my family members, not me, maybe one day me, but, that would be too narcissistic, uh, people who have done/did more shit than me and are/were younger than me, like DH Lawrence and Orwell, and, too many people to list. Anyone who writes a novel before the age of 20, or, works for Reuters before that age. Writers in general for their anti-A.D.D.-ness supah powahs

My Blog
