The band 'stovetop' have been part of Melbourne's inner city music scene for some time now. Starting off in the late nineties playing soul and reggae covers together with some off their own 'meters' inspired grooves. The core of the band, Simon Burke(hammond+bass+vocals)and Sim martin(guitar+vocals)gave the unit the flexibility to play many different styles with strong vocal harmony ability and a highly flexible intensity they were able to play the biggest dance venues down to quiet cafe's where they could blend in like wallpaper-you would hardly believe it was the same band. With this they quietly forged their way, re-interpreting familiar and less than familiar songs, playing countless inner-city gigs at various bars, clubs and cafe's.This is however only 1 side of 'stovetop'. The other, and equally important is that over those years Simon Burke has been prolifically and skillfully honing his song-writing and the latest incarnation of the band with the inclusion of drummer George Servanis is the a marriage of the 2 parts. The result we hoped for the lataest cd 'now now' is Simon's soulful, structured heartfelt songs as interpreted by a roots driven band that has had so much experience re-interpreting and delivering their unique sound. Its in the Groove that counts!
