Sometimes I think the best thing about me, are my friends.

About Me

Contrary.

Ok if you're really interested.. My non LJ Livejournal /anounce yourself/: www.livejournal.com/users/maxburnA dogster.com plug for my sis' puppy, Porschia .Quote of the moment. "Thoughts are the shadows of our feelings - always darker, emptier and simpler." - Nietzsche
All quiet on the western front. And at night, waking out of a dream, overwhelmed and bewitched by the crowding apparitions, a man perceives with alarm how slight is the support, how thin the boundary that divides him from the darkness. We are little flames poorly sheltered by frail walls against the storm of dissolution and madness, in which we flicker and sometimes almost go out.
Everyone dies. You're born, and you die. The bit in the middle's called life, and that's still to come! - Lister/RedDwarf Hate to be cliche.. And yet. Some movie scripts just speak to you. Strange Days
MACE: You're some piece of work, you know that. Just calmly backstroking around in the big toilet bowl, and somehow you never let it touch you. I mean, between Vice and this so-called occupation you're in now, you must've seen it all.
LENNY: I have crawled through the gutter... through every wrinkle in the human brain.
MACE: What I'm saying. But you still come out this goofball romantic.
LENNY: It is my sword and my shield, Macey. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! - Rocky BalboaThe purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things. - Rainer Maria RilkeSuddenly this devotion to the music, which so often looked like stupidity, looks like greatness. Then we all take a ride on the pretty music, the past is another place, and there is only the glorious now. - Iggy Pop, Open Up and Bleed, by Paul Trynka

My Interests

Rebuilding. What interests me?You. Me. The world at large. Philosophy. because sometimes, actions are not as important as the reasons behind them. The human condition intrigues me.Music. I -am- the dancing fool.Photography. The punk rock camera died demanded new batteries. Long live the punk rock camera. This camera has been with me to 3 continents, has been ducktaped.. dropped innumerable times(in a river once, no less) and lived to tell the tale. The last bit of indignity has been getting robitussin slowly poured into it... It's a survivor, like myself.Fitness. Lately, probably as part of the rebuild, I've been stepping up my healthy body/healthy mind doctrine. My current goal is 185solid muscle and being able to see the six pack under the fine layer of chocolate and sugar where it resides ;)

I'd like to meet:

Someone intrinsically meaningful. (This is a goal.)These are basic guidelines:Self Respect No repeated history of abuse, sexual or otherwise No chemical imbalances of the brain / self medication Maintains amicable contact with at least ONE member of their family.Ha! Gogol BordelloBack when Depeche Mode was nearly perfect (Before the strings)Ahhh. The BUNNY of Seville.Living in Oblivion - Anything Box.. I cant believe I forgot about these guys..

Music:

Yes. Bands I must see live before I die. The Cure, U2 and Joy Division. (Make that New Order now -Damn you Ian Curtis). So far I got the first two covered.Best Live Bands that I've seen to date: Black 47 , The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Floggin Molly, Lucero .Thinking about music 'festivals'.. I never made it to a Lolapalooza.. went to Lilith Fair (To catch Sarah McLachlan) and I've been to a few Warped Tours.. Curiosa was excellent. The surprise of the day was Mogwai, followed by Interpol.Current sounds.. I'm curious about the presets. In lust with the Knife. Rediscovering Controlled Bleeding and La Oreja De Van Gogh.

Movies:

Often.Strange Days comes to mind.Recently saw Driving Lessons (again), 300 (8 times! SPARRRTAAAA!), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang .DVD/Movie collection sampling (Off the top of my head): Life is Beautiful, Spiderman, Mean Machine, The 13th Warrior, HellBoy, Music from another room, The Pink Panther(CartoonCompilation), Brotherhood of the wolf, Charlie Chaplin, Way of the Gun, Little Miss Sunshine(3 Greg Kinear)..Buster Keaton is a GENIUS

Television:

-WHEN- I watch it..

The NEW BattleStar Galactica. Love the new FEMALE Starbuck! And now I'm waiting for the next (final?) season. Monk if I can catch it, same goes for Cowboy Bebop. I tried watching eMpTVy once or twice and had to turn it off it was so repulsive. Smallville: Guilty pleasure. The inconsistency hurts. Red Dwarf! Smegheads! I want to catch Rescue me, but I believe I need to do this from Season 1 Episode 1. Dennis Leary is fun.

Books:

Correction. I don't -just- read books.ReadingBooks - Still reading tech docs(Though not AS much). I always find myself rereading Red Dwarf's Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and/or Good Omens at any given moment. Currently re-reading Tradiciones Peruanas - Ricardo Palma.Paperback Graphic Novels -

New Blue Beetle. It's funny, I thought I wasn't into comic book superheroes. And Jaime isn't quite there. He's more like a brown Peter Parker, when spiderman began. Transmetropolitan(Which reads like Hunter S. Thompson, in the near future if you ask me). John Constantine:Hellblazer because the bastard has balls and is a scoundrel with a code The Authority Well, because how can you not get into a book where Superman and Batman equivalents are GAY, and TOGETHER. Priceless. Preacher. As a recovering catholic, I always enjoy it when the writer kills gOD. Books of Magic. Because Timothy Hunter would kick Harry Potter's ASS. And he was The Merlin before Harry even knew about his ancestry.
Comic Books -
Punisher Because Ennis keeps writing him the way I like. And Barracuda just.. damn. Deadpool Insane? Check. Mercenary? Check. Funny as fuckall? Double check. Dawn Really, most J. Linser work. HiBrow/LoBrow! Timothy Hunter
Very much partial to the Ennis/Dillon writing team.Online Strips -

Heroes:

The true definition of heroism comes to mind from "A Bronx Tale", when Deniro(Playing a bus driver and devoted father) tells his kid that the local mob boss isn't tough. That the common man is tough. It takes more to wake up everyday and go to work and be responsible for his family than it does to be a wiseguy.
