Biography
Early in 2006 - Relentless records signed English singer/songwriter Jamie Hartman, previously known for his songs on other artists records - including Will Young, Lemar, Emma Bunton, Natalie Imbruglia and more than 30 others - to his first solo record deal. But when he made his first album, Beta-Male Fairytales, in the Autumn of 2006 with Martin Terefe, producer of James Morisson/ KT Tunstall / Ron Sexsmith / Martha Wainwright, it was obvious that this was more than just a singer/songwriter kind of thing - and when people heard Jamie's songs live with a four piece band around him - the music took on a life of its own.
So with the help of an ad in the music press, he put Ben's Brother the band together. He recruited :
Kiris Houston ..boards/Harmonica/Vocals, Dan Mckinna on Bass/Vocals, Dave Hattee on Drums and Tim Vanderkuil on Electric Guitar/Vocals. The name Ben's Brother came from when Jamie's older brother, Ben, had taken Jamie's music to South Africa with him on cd - he played it to people who quickly passed it around and copied it - but Ben wasn't telling them anything more than "It's my brother's band" - so they naturally called the group "Ben's Brother". The cd attracted a following, and the band name stuck.
Since early 2007 when the band hit the road and their music hit the airwaves, Ben's Brother have played in many countries, their first abum, Beta-Male Fairytales has been at number 3 on the iTunes Charts in the UK, they have had Top 10 singles and Top 10 albums and extensive radio play all over the world. Stuttering was featured as the song for Dentyne Ice in the US, attracting 10,000 hits a day to this page and selling 150,000 copies in the US alone, and the song Let Me Out was featured on the Thanksgiving episode of Gray's Anatomy as well as going Top 10 in Italy, to Number 1 on the radio charts in South America and being nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2007 - the only other Nominee in that category being Multi-Grammy Winning Artist Amy Winehouse.
Jamie and the band have played shows ranging from 5 people to 35,000 people - and always leave their audiences wanting more. They are currently in the studio recording album 2 with Award-Winning Writer and Producer Sacha Skarbek co-producing with Jamie. According to early reports - this one will be a big step forward for Ben's Brother.
We've put up new video clips from the recording sessions already, and watch out for new live dates in the Autumn of 2008. Expect to hear news about the new album and a new single release towards the end of 2008/early 2009 - it will be well worth waiting for!
