About Me

Born in the wake of the highly successful not the usual suspects attic artshow
Sugar City is structured as an alternative community arts and cultural space (not a traditional wine-and-cheese-white-walled gallery) to share and create art based on participatory culture and a do-it-together attitude. Ideally elements will include a non-hierarchical all ages venue with music, films, zine library, meeting space, local craft corner, art gallery, workshops, workspace- you name it (its what you want to start!). We want to break down the barriers of what is and isn't "art" because in some way everyone is an artist. Its about sharing creativity and energy. We want to organize a space to exhibit perform and create art for those who cannot obtain space from traditional sources because of social limitations.
until we get a real physical space (which is so hard) we are having shows at various locations across our fair city. if you know of a space that might fit our needs or want to host a sugar city show in your own space. please message us.

On Saturday July 19th you should come to 55 ardmore pl buffao, ny at 6pm to see Christopher Bell from Jamestown, NY before he embarks on a 6 week canoe voyage across the Erie canal and down the Hudson River. He was featured on NPR for his eco-savy-ness for planning to tour in canoe and not a motor vehicle!!! There will be some free food, a performance by tom van deusen and other muscians TBD. $2-$3 donations greatly appreciated if possible.

The show is EARLY FOR REAL, like 6pm-9pm so we can all go to pissed jeans or mother red’s CD release show.

As part of the infringment festival Sugar City is having a few showcases.

Including July 27 and August 1st with other dates possible.

Here is your chance to perform anything you want (in under 15 minutes) We want to use this showcase to emulate the nature of the Not the usual Suspects Attic shows last year with a multi-media variety show. Have a project you’ve been secretly working on, have an idea you need a push to create, have some drawings collecting dust under your bed or videos on your harddrive OR do you just want to make something up just cause!!!!!!!!! Think art, music, film, video, poetry, dance, puppets, performance, crafting, teach-ins, anything you want to show an audience. Pitch us a nice idea and we will probably say yes (scheduling maybe overwhelming so we can’t make guarentees). If you are a band please be under 3 members for easier setup. There is a PA and a probably a video projector.

You can do anything imaginable!
