Who Am I?
Nope, this isn't an existential musing, it's just me trying to find some structure in the 'let me introduce myself - oh, and by the way I hope you like my songs' thing. I'm one of those singer/songwriter types, which in itself isn't really that interesting. What (hopefully) makes it interesting is the songs that write. Have a listen to them - if you like them, let me know.
As for the bit about me. Well ... i'm based in London (having recently moved down from Leicester to persue life in the big bad city). I love real ale, fruit smoothies and (wait for it) .... music. Being an acoustic lass i'm a fan of the likes of Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos and Fiona Apple. Still, i'm a rock chic at heart and bands such as the Deftones, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden have all had an influence on me. Studying music for the past 3 years has opened my ears, though, and i've found inspiration in a wider range of genres than i thought possible. I've also learnt what pushes my buttons - music with feeling. The sort of music that reaches inside and touches you. It's that kind of music that I love, and that kind that I hope to create.
Like most people, my life has given me plenty to write about. Early on, writing songs kept me (almost) sane and allowed me to express the darkness that I tried to keep inside. The songs were my voice - if I let them speak, then they allowed me to get on with the normal busines of growing up. Now, though, (x number of years, and lots of madness, later) i no longer need them in the same way. I still write, but i write because i love to and not because i'll go mad if i don't.
I write about love, about loss, about discovering the good (and bad) in yourself. I write about the things i remember, the things i'm afraid of and the things i want to beleive in. I hope you listen to my songs, and enjoy them in some way. If you do - let me know.
At the moment I have a 3 track CD, which is soon to grow into an EP (early 2008) - Mad Girl's Love Song. I gig as often as I can, so along and see my live if you're free. Any suggestions for venues (anywhere in the UK) are always appeciated.
