You may be surprised to learn that Canon, the world’s number one digital camera producer, isn’t wiling to condemn using harpoons – despite their high-profile advertising and sponsorship programs dedicated to wildlife and endangered species. We have asked Mr. Mitarai, CEO of Canon Japan to speak out against Japan’s whaling program, but so far, Canon has declined to take a stand against the killing of thousands of whales.That’s where you come in! You can put pressure on Mr. Mitarai to speak out against Japan’s whaling program. Here are two actions you can do:First, TAKE ACTION and ask the CEO of Canon Japan to defend whales!Second, USE YOUR CAMERA to tell Canon to speak out against the Japanese whaling program and take part in our Online Flickr Photo Competition!The whales need a powerful domestic ally in Japan. As a leader in the business world, Canon could express disapproval of lethal research whaling, and help put an end to a decades-old scientific hoax.We believe that when a corporation draws income and brand value from association with environmental causes, they have a responsibility to speak out on those issues. For the sake of the health of the oceans, Greenpeace is urging them to adopt sustainable fishing practices.There are literally thousands of seafood dealers here, and millions of dollars worth of marine life are being traded right now. While some folks in the seafood business are trying to do the right thing, many, if not most, are still profiting from selling fish that they shouldn’t because of destructive fishing practices such as bottom trawling, bycatch and pirate fishing. We’re here to try to put a stop to it.Greenpeace has created a red list of seafood that should be removed from the marketplace, and we’re asking dealers to adopt sustainable seafood procurement policies. Fish caught by damaging methods make their way into our supermarkets and oceans pay the price.
