Ozzie's Funk Band - Ruta Maya House Band

About Me

The band is Ozzie's, he just shares it with people @ Ruta Maya - I don't know much about them except that they are all pro players who get paid for their time. They had never heard my stuff before and just went with their intuition...I was talking to the lead guitarist Drew Howard today and he said he'd be available in a few weeks to help me with a couple more songs...I have about 30 right now in various states of completion...several just about ready...I've played them out solo a few times. I'm hopeful that I can get them to play with me again and have asked if they might be available for the Hole In The Wall gig on April 20, 2008The tenor sax player Melvin is just unreal...what a blessing to have had him on this...words don't come close...hope to work with him again for sure.Bass player Randall Squires...what can I say...just listen...I love it, love it, love it. He pushes and pulls me, changes up the rythms like he wrote the song...don't know how he does it...he's just great....what a priviledgeSwift the drummer...I've never even talked to the dude but I sure will the next time I see him...thanks man...it's not easy to keep me on the beat...I know You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !

Band Members: Bass: Randall Squires Lead guitar: Drew Howard Tenor Sax: Melvin the great Drums: Swift Leader of this group: Ozzie...Ozzie did not play on this but thanks for everything man! Sound Mix: Kurt Gannon...I don't know what he does but I like it and he's a very cool dude...I'm gonna see if I can get some lessons Acoustic guitars/vocals: Art Shepherd (Shep) I'm from Massachusetts and have been in Austin about 3 weeks and hope to never leave...don't see why I'd want to.
Influences: I can't speak for the band but my influences are: Shawn Colvin; Patty Griffin; John Gorka; The Beatles; The Band; Crosby Stills Nash & Young; Jim Morrison; Van Morrison; Eva Cassidy; Janis Joplin; Manhattan Transfer; Otis Redding; Stevie Wonder; Donnie Hathaway; Bob Dylan; Bob Schneider; Wilson Pickett; Sam Beam; Stevie Ray Vaughn; Kenny Wayne Shepherd; Allman Brothers; Beach Boys; Richard Thompson; Nick Drake; Joni Mitchell; Jackson Brown; Jim Croce;
Sounds Like: Someone told me "Soul Asylum" but I really don't know. Recently I've been trying to let songs be what they are and sing them accordingly. Some times I sound one way and the next like John Prine...someone told me I sounded like him last week.Drew said he thought these songs fit into the "Soul/Blues" genre...if so I'd be proud but I didn't anticipate being that kind of singer...the songs and this band kind of brought me there. I'll see if I can hang around. But I have some songs coming out that will definitely sound more like John Prine who I adore...so that's cool.
