About Me

56 Gigs and Counting!

Seconds released their next EP JOHN MERRICK ON THE INSIDE in late Dec 2006.

"It's a record of which we're very proud & of which we feel compelled to introduce to a climate we feel is musically & ideologically starved," remarks frontman, Rad.

Tracks on the EP include 3 new recordings of songs that the fans know & love PLUS an oldie that was recorded straight after the last EP a few years back. It rarely gets bashed out at gigs but the recording is a cracker. The unfinished symphony of the oldie TRANSFUSION VAMP makes it's way onto the CD as an impressive & life-affirming instrumental. T - ONE, guest keyboardist during the live shows, remixes a 2nds classic that Rad often referred to as the Just Jeans song. It's energetic, it is inventive, it is unusual, it is seconds.

--------Taking a leaner, faster, & tighter approach to their sound than that which produced the analogue-hot garage pop monster EP HATE MAKES A CHAMPION ('really, quite good' beat magazine), seconds' new record deilvers 5 songs featuring Twin-carb drum work - drummer Van Thanh's skills feature throughout this record; Crisp, bi-polar guitars - Rich Giliberto works his rickenbacker to all it's strengths throughout spatious, contemplative rythmn hooks, & furious, caustic lead passages; Precision primal bass lines - bassist Iain Wilson's experience as percussionist burning brightly, he not figuratively arc welds Van Thanh's beats to the song's melodic colour; Rad's actual complex lyrical explorations of the modern cyborg disguised in TV-jingle-catchy phrasing & narratives, & mono-phonic sprinklings of guitar inspired synth quips, round out the equation.

Available here on myspace are other new tracks REMO: challenging a doubtful reflection, UNBECOMING: a realisation upon fluctuating realisations, MC MALAISE: first laughter after a season of sorrow, ZEN KU CHI DACH: accept what's coming.

Jokey band bio:

Seconds formed as all great bands do. Iain, Van, Rich, & Rad were each finalists in the Centrelink "6 months or longer on benefits" talent competition. Each, with good looks, some with musical ability, & all energetic disco dancers, drawn together by a visionary talent scout intent on making big bucks quick.

The talent scout left the band due to no fincancial return BUT IMPORTANTLY the band, through an epiphany, has stayed together & are forging a reputation as relevant & cutting edge artists.

Using; a punk ethic to dissolve any virtuosic requirement; instinctive 80's pop elements that tick the 'retro' box; occassional vocoder to sound really futuristic, & a whole heap of good ol' Melbourne "I live in the arts capital of Australia so I must be a superior artist" attitude, these guys are destined to be ripping up the charts any time soon.
