Paint the Road Reviews
MOJO- Sutton Coldfield is not best known for its lonely prairies but, but theyre beautifully evoked on these 10 songs
UNCUT- Paced like Gillian Welch at her Bible-black best
MAVERICK- High class and oozes a brooding authenticity. Music is about feel and emotion and he has those in spades AMERICANA UK- Lovely delicate dark brooding Americana
THE SCOTTSMAN- One of the finest exponents of moss hung backwoods Americana you'll find in the UK
SUBBA-CULTCHA.COM- My favourite song? Can you have an album made of favourites?
WISPERIN AND HOLLERIN.COM-His voice offers a style that is quite unique
ABOUT JAMES SUMMERFIELD
James Summerfield often sounds like he could be holed up in some moss hung Appalachian cabin, sitting on the porch, banjo on his lap and bottle of hooch at his side, swapping Southern gothic songs of misery and murder with preacher men and moonshiners.
Previously signed to Birminghams Bearos Records and Sanctuary Group, in 2002 Buick 6 (later The Toques) released the quite wonderful Drunk on My Porch earning glowing reviews and a John Peel Session. A well received second single, Too Tired to Worry, followed as did a second Peel Session.
In September 2003 James decided to unhitch the wagon and go solo.
Result? "A song writer of real flair" as www.Americana-uk.com so sagely put it a few months later in reviewing his self-penned, self-produced and almost totally self-played debut album Hailah, Hailah with its yearning lap steel, soulful Hammond and bible black violin.
James second album, Paint the Road oozes authenticity and has earned him great reviews.
