Music is the healing force in the universe

About Me

Hello internet. In real life I am a musician who likes to play music that involves the saxophone, since I can actually play that instrument. There are many different styles of music that I like to play which involve the saxophone or other instruments that require blowing. I grew up in Rockville, Maryland and currently reside in Bowie.

I am a recent graduate of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where I was fortunate to study jazz with some very stellar professors, including esteemed director David Baker and saxophone professor Tom Walsh; as well as Luke Gillespie, Pat Harbison, Steve Houghton, Jeremy Allen, and Joey Tartell. As a reward for my continual toiling through academia, the faculty members generously awarded me a Performer's Certificate in April 2006.

In my short time as a musician, I have been inspired by a number of performance opportunities that I hope to someday learn from (although I do realize that this may well never happen). These include:

Being a member of the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra in Washington, DC with performances at the Kennedy Center. Playing in various IU ensembles, including: IU jazz ensembles and concert band, the IU Soul Revue, the Latin American Popular Music Ensemble, and various other ensembles. Attending the Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia Park in Chicago, IL in June 2006. This program allowed me to work personally with James Moody, Rufus Reid, Nathan Davis, and David Baker as well as meet a group of extremely talented young musicians. Being on the faculty of the jazz camp at Birch Creek in Egg Harbor, WI in summer 2005. An excellent program let by bassist Jeff Campbell from Eastman School of Music. Leading or being part of several extremely satisfying area groups, including: Mojai, Clockwork, the (x)tet, The Saxophone Cartel, Montezuma's Revenge, The Like Minds Collective, Live Jazz, The Monster Zero Orchestra, and the James "Blood" Ulmer Cover Band (among others) Working professionally with a number of local and regional acts around Indiana in a wide range of styles, from swing bands to rock to techno to music theatre to polka to top 40 to you name it. (please hire me!!!!11 rotflmao hehehe)

Thanks for visiting my page, I hope you enjoy my music!

Influences: Oh lord...why even make me do this? Where am I supposed to start?I'm, um, influenced by friends, family, colleagues, society, technology, nature, the cosmos, all that I will never understand, learning acceptance......oh, you meant musical influences?? Another exercise in futility. Here's a completely incomplete list, starting with jazz (yay!):Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Lee Konitz, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Billie Holiday, Jim Hall, Woody Shaw, Jason Moran, Andrew Hill, Wayne Shorter, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Paul Desmond, Louis Armstrong, Bird, Herbie Nichols, Wayne Shorter, Art Tatum...and just about everybody else who is known in the jazz world. I picked those few artists because they're like original sources to me and I have (and like) just about all of their records. As far as other influences go:Igor Stravinsky, The Roots, Olivier Messiaen, J Dilla, Steve Reich, D'Angelo, Nirvana, Mr. Bungle, Ween, Kool Keith, The Stooges, Radiohead, Mos Def, Prince, Brazilian samba, Sublime, György Ligeti, Nobukazu Takemura, Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, The Actual Tigers, James Brown, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, Notorious BIG, Jimi Hendrix, Funkadelic (Parliament is cool too), The Neptunes, um...I can't keep doing this...I'm trying to be succinct for the sake of "publicity" and making lists of awesome music that I love is certainly not going to achieve that goal.Seriously though, I am profoundly influenced by the musicians/artists around me. I'm indebted to everybody on these recordings, as well as all the fine musicians that I've had the pleasure of playing with so far, because it's all these folks that keep me focused. Thanks! I just hope that I can give back the same enegy (Please scold me if I'm not).
Sounds Like: Me fighting my instrument. And my inner monologue. Rrrrargh! Hopefully as time goes by my music will become more peaceful!
