About Me

I just want to credit the musicians performing on the recordings with me: Sophie Faught on tenor sax, Michael Hackett on trumpet, Jesse Nolan on drums, and Brian Holtz on bass. They are wonderful musicians and great people I've had a great pleasure working with, learning from, and getting to know. Now follows a pretentious sounding bio in the third person:Zach Lapidus, a native of Portland, Oregon, is a jazz pianist and arranger currently pursuing undergraduate studies at Indiana University. Prior to commencing studies at IU, Zach's main focus was on violin and string arrangements. He first received notice for his avant-garde arrangements of the music of Jimi Hendrix for small string ensembles, which were featured in a performance at the National Association for Music Education's 2003 Northwest Convention and requested by many high school orchestra directors for their own high school ensembles. Since arriving at IU, Zach has devoted his studies completely to his passion: jazz piano. He studies under Luke Gillespie, and has since enjoyed many performance opportunities, such as David Baker's and Pat Harbison's jazz bands, IU Soul Revue, and several small ensembles. Zach has performed in the Elmhurst and North Texas Jazz Festivals, and will be performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam this July with Brian Holtz, Jesse Nolan, and Sophie Faught, and Michael Hackett. Zach Lapidus' performance credits include playing with Maurice Brown, Mark Buselli, and Brent Wallarab.
