I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

coffee. coffee keeps me going, sometimes puts me to sleep. aside from that i am a hairdresser named karren recently moved from vancouver to oliver bc in the quest of a quiet more simple life. yes, that's right, i'm simple.
i'm a painter, homebody, collector of the wacky and/or old. i'm a mum to a fantastic 8 yr old girlie and an equally fantastic 8 month old lil fella! somewhere in there i am also learning to tattoo.
i should have run away and joined the circus a long time ago cos people i work with never get my humour. somehow, i think the sword-swallowing tattooed bearded ladies would. i've never really fit in any one shoebox (cos try as i may, my butt sticks out.)
i promise to do pilates but there's that cake i have to make. i mean to smile more at strangers but i'm bad at remembering this. i always leave my glasses everywhere. i wish i made my own clothes more often... i wish i had more reasons to wear taffeta.
i dream.
being a mum is the mostest cool thing to me.
see? aren't they adorable?

My Interests

well, the dusty, musty, old and collectible, barbies, pirates and pirate history, cruiser bicycles, sock-monkeys , boys with big side-burns, tattoos/tattooing , vintage cars and custom rods, lucky lager, rockabilly music, giant squid tequilla. early 80's euro-pop, zombie flicks and other assorted horrors.

then there's hanging out at home, finger-painting with my daughter, petting our loverly kitty tilly, talking to our birds and hoping they don't poop on me... TODAY.

-- forget "planet of the apes"...
SOCKMONKEYS UNITE to end our human reign --

I'd like to meet:

creative, well-grounded people who know the sock monkeys are plotting to overthrow the govt... they put lint in our water.

this is cecil the sockmonkey enjoying some vb's on his trip to australia. i've never been but cecil says it's lovely... or at least what he can remember of it. yes, i have interesting friends!

i am always intrigued by those with an appreciation of language and arts, wandering thinkers with deep roots in the now. i'd love to meet other parents in my city (vancouver bc)... ones who know that suv's are over-rated and who often find themselves answering questions at the end of PAC meetings with sentences like, "of course it hurt, it's an elbow tattoo ."

Music:

i'm gonna list a whole slew of stuff cos if you like some of the music here, you may like others you may not have heard of... webb pierce, wanda jackson, johnny cash, rose maddox, david bowie, peter, paul & mary, carl perkins, warren smith, marty robbins, the coffin shakers, boomtown rats, hayden thompson, buzzcocks, barbara pittman, little junior's blue flames, nomeansno, bellfuries, blur, charletons, the alcons, jimmy heap, joe clay, elvis costello, janice martin, sid king and the five strings, the misfits, go cat go, cigar store indians, johnny horton, johnny burnette, the electric six, charlie feathers, the cure, the cadillacs, the night riders, cyndi lauper, hasil adkins, nofx, eddie cochrane, glen glenn, the jam, buck jones, love & rockets, hollis champion, gene vincent, sundowners, cave catt sammy, daisy chainsaw, supersuckers, decendants, tennessee ernie ford, stiff little fingers, groucho marx, andy williams, esquivel... i could go on and probably will later.

Books:

i read a lot of the classics. this doesn't make me any smarter than the average joe, just probably more nerdy. i also love many canadian authors. Robertson Davies, Margaret Lawrence, Margaret Atwood (sure, throw your stones), Timothy Findley (SOME of his stuff, like Headhunter), my eyes are getting blurry, so i'll finish this up later... where did i leave my glasses?

Heroes:

we don't need another hero. all we want is what's beyond thunderdome.

My Blog
