Conditions exist. But can resplendence save? History persists; we take our beauty as we may, as when: the moon is my streetlamp--she is my savior, she is my whore: and when she is my freedom, she's my delinquency, beneath some starless sky--and was it this errant flame, man-made, burning valiantly, in spite of some obscuring fog: was it for this that it seemed all the more like a moon to me? No matter--for, if conditions exist, then resplendence is a lie: and tiny truths are the spoils of our illusive History: and yea, no discernment may obtain--so well as conscience may...
The Desert knows its own--would offer (to one who is not unlike itself) some semblance of rest: Desert would yield some desultory rites of this martyr's passage; would, but that its Empty Quarter's emptiness should not be taken (in itself), as is its wont, by one who is like it. Desert likes company in its solitude, and one who is like desert, likes solitude, in kind. This one who comes here is called loner: and he who comes to know this desert, would know his own.
Duplicitous kindness kills us from behind the pleated curtains we hang, where sunlight strikes the outside, rounded folds, and shadows fill the spaces in between--taking their shape by virtue of perspective, as well as other factors--of ambience, and aperture (the only light is the light we let inside)--and we are all caricatures, in pleated Abstraction, waiting for the sun, and seeking not to rise--as the occasion calls for diffusion, through the layers of our textured selves, drawn closed by circumstance, which duplicitous kindness brings...
