Sounds Like: Dorothea Jaburek is studying at the University of Art and Music in Graz/Austria. She started with violin in her childhood and after a few years in the Conservatory of classical music in Vienna she focussed more on jazzsinging and began to take lessons with Ines Reiger. She was influenced by austrian guitarplayer Christian Havel with who she performed several times. In 2006 Dorothea was one of the winners as best austrian newcomer jazzmusician and performed at the MM Jazzfestival in St. Poelten/Austria. After that she spent some time in the United States singing with great jazzpianoplayer Geri diMarco. At the moment she is taught by american pianist and singer Dena Derose. Dorothea works mainly as a lyricist and brought words to a number of jazzstandards, and compositions of her bandmembers. One of her first projects was the adaption of the Keith Jarrett's version of the beautiful ballad "Never let me go". Following his melody and solo Dorothea created a new version of this song.(As you can hear above). In july 2008 she also will be participant at the semifinal of the Shure Voice Jazzcompetition in Montreux/Switzerland.
