KLAUS DINGER
24.03.46 - 20.03.08
We are very sad to report the death of Klaus Dinger, who died suddenly of heart failiure four days before his 62nd birthday on March 20th 2008.
Dinger formed Neu! with Micheal Rother in 1971, releasing three seminal albums: Neu!, Neu 2! and Neu 75! His landmark drumming style on these records, a propulsive almost surf-like repetitious groove defined the term 'motorik' and has had a profound influence on a huge range of artists such as Primal Scream, Stereolab, Wilco, David Bowie, The Boredoms and Four Tet.
He later formed La Dusseldorf, selling over a million copies in the 70s and 80s.
"There were three great beats in the 70's. Fela Kuti's Afrobeat, James Brown's Funk and Klaus Dinger's Neu! beat"
Brian Eno
The burial took place amongst a private circle of family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

"Merz sounds like nobody else in the world and the world would be alright if it listened to nobody else. We absolutely love him"
Chris Martin, Coldplay
"If this record consisted in its entirety of just the few seconds of ethereal backing vocals at the end of Call Me, I would still consider it a likely candidate for album of the year. It’s that special."

MERZ aka Conrad Lambert's third album "Moi Et Mon Camion" was released march the 17th.
The first press reviews sound very promising:
"...bedding down with ember-glowing arrangements..."4/5 MOJO
“Had Thom Yorke penned anything as moving as ‘Silver Moon Ladders’ or ‘Presume Too Much’ for his solo effort, the applause would still be ringing†4/5 Uncut
“Intricate, melodious songs that blend electronica and folk… understated, heartfelt stuff†4/5 Q
“As English as wet grass, this wholesome record hums with the promise of the coming Spring†Word magazine
“His lacing of guitars and electronica serve up a range that sees him bounce from quasi-Elizabethan balladeer to junk rocker… It is the beautiful ‘First And Last Waltz’ that hints Lambert’s forthcoming album will be something to savour†4/5 The Guardian (live review)

GRONLAND Records was launched in 2001 on the back of the reissues of Kraftwerk founders and Krautrock innovators NEU!. The electronic pioneers being the first international release gave Gronland its own mission to unearth a wide musical range of very unique sounds whith emphasis on the rough edges of each artist.
Gronland's eclectic edgy roster also includes Yorkshire troubadour MERZ (formerly on epic), long term Sparklehorse collaborator SOL SEPPY , experimental junk folk from the Orkneys (HALF COUSIN), singer/songwriter PETRA JEAN PHILLIPSON (voice of David Holmes Free Association), electronica influenced rock (MACHINE) and daringly distinct electronica (ROEDELIUS, LUNZ).
The inspiration behind Gronland is, most simply, the philosophy that it isn't the marketing strategy that influences business decisions, but the musician and his craft. Without disregarding the economical aspects of the record label's survival, Gronland refuses to become a production plant or an example of "how marketing creates musicians". Rather, it is committed to being a fertile field where art and music are free to grow and where care and time invested over the years yield success.
