Packed with clever melodies and punchy guitar licks that rock like a twentysomething Elvis Costello, Phantom Punch is Sondre Lerche's most vital record yet. It was produced by Tony Hoffer (Supergrass, The Kooks, Phoenix, Beck, Belle & Sebastian, The Thrills, Turin Brakes).
Sondre Lerche's soundtrack for Dan In Real Life is out now.
The soundtrack to the soon to be released Touchstone Pictures film Dan In Real Life features 13 tracks recorded exclusively for the movie, including four new songs and seven instrumental tracks penned by Sondre specifically for the film. The album also features favorites, including Airport Taxi Reception†from the Phantom Punch album, the cover version of Elvis Costello’s “Human Hands†from Duper Sessions and “Modern Nature,†from Faces Down.
The album also includes “Hell No,†a duet Sondre sings with New York-based singer-songwriter Regina Spektor and a cover version of Pete Townshend’s Top 10 hit “Let My Love Open The Door.†Sondre and The Faces Down even make an appearance at the end of the film.
The film stars Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, “The Officeâ€) as advice columnist Dan Burns, who is an expert on relationships but somehow struggles to succeed as a brother, a son and a single parent in this heartfelt comedy from director Peter Hedges ("Pieces Of April"). Starring alongside standup star Dane Cook and Academy Award® winner Juliette Binoche, Carell is about to discover a family weekend of chaos, confusion, and love in the face of left-field surprises. Dan In Real Life opens on October 26th.

"The combination is irresistible. The full-frontal pop of "Say It All," the woozy morning-after reflection of "Tragic Mirror ," and the 1980s no-wave energy of "John, Let Me Go" all showcase Lerche's ability to craft jaunty songs that hold up nicely in their newly sweaty surroundings." - The Boston Globe
“[Phantom Punch] hits hard without sacrificing any of Lerche's classic pop appeal…this flesh-and-blood, down-to-earth Lerche has never sounded better. -Austin Chronicle
“Sondre Lerche is Scandinavia's answer to Bright Eyes…stop/start rhythms infuse the album's first four songs with nervy bristling energy …” – Magnet
“Powered by nervously scrubbed guitar and a funk bassline that brings some welcome snap and crackle back to Lerche's folk and pop.” – Alternative Press
“Short, snappy songs with subtle production flips by Beck producer Tony Hoffer combine to make Phantom Punch one of the alt-rock gems of the new year” - Yellow Rat Bastard
