About Me

The Anchor Project is a drop-in structure for young separated asylum seekers based in Brixton, London. The charity was founded 1.5 year ago by Bahia, Jessica, Jennifer and Aida and is run on a voluntary basis.

We aim at providing a safe space for newly arrived and separated asylum seeking children aged between 10yrs and 18yrs old.
Those young people are in very vulnerable position when arriving in the country, they have to fend for themselves in a language they do not know, with little emotional support or landmarks.
The Anchor Project facilitates the arrival and integration of these young people by providing a space where they can meet with fellow young people, take part in workshops and activities and benefit from an emotional safety net or simply have fun.
Most importantly the project allows them to become the young people they really are by creating a "worry-free" space on the weekend.

The challenges of running such a structure are numereous, negative media perception, often misinformation and of course money but the project was made sustainable through the amazing support of many bands and venues in London who kindly performed for free to help us raise money and awareness of the plight of asylum seekers and refugees.

The Anchor Project runs established events ( Anchor Rocks! Nights) throughout the year and is always on the lookout for new bands. Our nights have always been a great success, attracting a good crowd of music lovers and raising substantial money/awareness for the project.
