About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorI am a total sweetheart - if you're good to me, and I can touch my nose with my tongue. I've an extremely romantic soul and cry like a baby during emotional films, but it never stops me watching them. About me, it's a bit complicated, but what isn't nowadays? What I can tell you is that I am of Pakistani origin, born and bred in North London. I grew up in a orthodox Muslim family where we all loved cats ( we had 11 at one point) and we're all geniuses! Awesome! Tongue slightly in cheek there, but we did okay. I would sum up my youth as being 'challenging' so I guess since then I have tried to make up for it without pissing all over my heritage. Music, cinema and socialising were very frowned upon. I didn't see my first film at the cinema until I was 18. As an utter free spirit with an original soul it was very hard, but I know now my parents thought they were protecting me, not so easy to cope with at that age when you're a stubborn cow with your own mind! Not much has changed on that score. I quite like my wilfulness. But remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
I am passionate about what I love and believe in. Ever since I was little I I loved writing stories, but growing up and lifes' trials and tribulations got in the way of that becoming truly possible until the last few years.
I even went as far as vanishing off to the Maldives to teach English and write for a couple of years, but got hopelessly distracted by gorgeous men and the Indian ocean. At one point there was even a plan to become the Senior Boat Captain's second wife on Kunfunadhoo. Insane I know, I blame having Mars In Aquarius in my horoscope for that. I didn't appreciate it back then, but it was probably best it didn't work out. I would have missed an awful lot of good gigs if it had.
I came home as I developed mercilessly painful sciatica in my spine and spent 2004 crippled and learning to walk again. Got sympathetic, curious looks walking around Stokey with a cane, and sweet women telling me 'Jesus will heal you!' when I had to sit down for a breather. I still miss the Maldives a lot and hope to go back sometime
I am now writing my first novel 'Gunshot Glitter' and need to get remotivated, as my head has been all over the place in the last few years. So far no one has told me it sucks, which is a relief and any real comments have been positive ( as opposed to the legion of those standard pre-printed responses you get sent when agency lists are full...arggh!) It's a very original, unusual thriller and to my knowledge no other Asian English writer has done anything like this before. You can read Chapter One if you request it from me.' Please keep your fingers crossed for me, I need all the luck you can spare - and if you think of anything that could help me succeed let me know. Remember what goes around comes around. Love and good wishes Yasmin xxx

My Interests

LIKES:
If I like it, and its original - I will love it, so watch out! Music, cinema, playing House of the Dead (only arcade game I've ever loved), going to the theatre, galleries, astrology, cats, writing fiction, putting make up on men, heated but friendly debates, reading tons everywhere and anywhere, photography, collecting perfume, painting, foreign travel - anywhere exotic ( seems to be the Indian Ocean since 2002) that lets me run around semi-naked can only be a good thing, swimming in the ocean, going gooey over gorgeous buildings, dancing until my thighs ache, live music - can you beat a great gig?! Meeting good but cool people ( harder then you think). Cooking fabulous food, spoiling those I love, oh and using those crazy strips that you glue on your nose to unplock your pores and pull your blackheads out. Those are HILARIOUS!!!
Buying nice underwear - I have quite the collection now... writing poetry - I hit a thousand in June 2006! DIY - my home is the result of a my own fair hands - finger painted, plastered, papered the lot! And last but not least - decadent, self indulgent bubble baths - after all it was Mae West who once said ' Too much of a good thing is wonderful..' I support Amnesty International, The Medical Foundation and Dr Barnados. I own two guitars, a recorder, a Sri Lankan drum and an xylophone. One day I might even learn to play them properly..

To all those who diss the '80's for music, *shut thy trap : )* and watch one of the best bands to ever emerge from the loins of the US. Ladies and Gentleman - The Pixies : )

I'd like to meet:

The lovely myspacers who live many miles away but have touched me in a real way. Courtney Love - when she's having a good day
I used to have a fair old list when I first started using MySpace, some of them still stand. I still think Bono is a great guy and an amazing talent, Angelina Jolie still makes me sit up, listen and watch. I'd love to meet her dad again actually, he was cool. I still think me and Larry Mullen Jnr would have amazing babies if he cloned himself. I love meeting musicians who create but appreciate the world doesn't just revolve around them, artists and people who are genuinely passionate about something. It took me a long time to find out how to do this, and myspace has been fantatsic for that, so cheers myspace, you rock! x

By the way DROP ME A WEE NOTE before you hit the 'ADD FRIEND' button, especially if you are a band. And if you don't then, sorry, screw you : )
Otherwise it's kind of lazy and I reckon you just want me to bulk up your numbers. So basically - NO NOTE = YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME.

By the way I must apologise in advance if it takes me a while to get round to responding to you if you have shown me that courtesy, I have over 200 of them at the moment and I'm not on top of them at all, so very sorry, but i do get there in the end..and I am always honest

Thank you! Keep enjoying MySpace : ) Stay safe. Yasmin xxx
P.S. I DON'T USE MSN MESSENGER, SORRY TO BE A KILL JOY! : ) IF U MAIL ME NOW AND ASK ME IF I DO, I WILL JUST IGNORE YOU AND THIS ANNOYS ME AS I LIKE TO BE POLITE :(

Just listen to the intensity of Stevie Nick's voice towards the end of this song..it's the studio version of Fleetwood Mac's - Silver Springs.

Music:

I'm excited about this bit!

I really love a good film soundtrack, it can make or break a movie - The Mission, The Claim, Sid and Nancy, Best Laid Plans, Out of Sight, Merry Chistmas Mr Lawrence, Monsters Ball - spring immediately to mind (and Hal Hartley movie scores)) My experience of classical music limited, but I think Gustav Holst's The Planets symphony is stunning. I love discovering new music to fall in love with, but will always dote on the old, as I'm very sentimental soul.

.. width="425" height="350" .... This is a great song to shake your ass to! But don't buy her stuff she wears fur the silly moo... grrr...

Your Movie Buff Quotient: 96%
You are a movie buff of the most obsessive variety. If a movie exists, chances are that you've seen it.
You're an expert on movie facts and trivia. It's hard to stump you with a question about film. Are You a Movie Buff?

Television:

Nip/Tuck is AWESOME, God how I love this show, since the death of Friends, Frasier and Sex In The City there hasn't been a great deal lately to float my boat, which is probably a good thing as its the 'opium of the masses.' Oh, but I love Ugly Betty, if you talk through Ugly Betty, you die : ) And don't even thing of trying to engage with me during Wire In The Blood...it would be a very bad idea

You Are From Venus

You love all forms of beauty. You love dressing up and anything luxurious. A social butterfly, you're incredibly popular and a great host. You're known for your fairness and affection. And as a friend to all. Careful though! You're desire to please may make you too willing to conform. Be yourself. Focus on what matters to you. You'll be all the more popular for it. What Planet Are You From?

Books:

Poppy Z Brite, Lisa Jewell, Angela Carter, Katherine Dunn - everyone should read Geek Love at least once, this is probably my favourite book for its startling originality and readability.
JK Rowling, Stephen King, Patricia Cornwell, Marian Keyes, Martina Cole ( she uses the word 'skullduggery' in nearly every book which always cracks me up! I met her earlier this year, that woman can talk for England I swear. Some Anne Rice. Looking at that list its filled with top women - but I have also liked stuff by Jeffrey Eugenides (Virgin Suicides), Patrick Susskind (Pefume), Hubert Selby Jnr ( Last Exit to Brooklyn - most distressing book I ever read, approach with caution)and Mike Gayle. Recently enjoyed Val McDermid's criminal profile novels based on Wire In The Blood.
I love a good rock biography or books on the industry. Julian Cope's is a must read, but I would say that wouldn't I? He's a locquacious dude and I love him.
'Wuthering Heights' is a work of genius. To get that much passion, emotion and intensity into a novel without anyone having a shag or getting their kit off is class! Truly a lost art. My home is a fire hazard due to all the stuff I get in, but it really does keep the imagination alive. Charity shops and libraries are fabulous for experimenting with tall tales.

Heroes:

Muhammad Ali ( especially in his youth) for standing up for what he believed in even though it cost him the best years of his boxing career in the 'land of the free' What a role model.
The late Mother Theresa for showing true selflessness and what good it can do. Aung San Su Kyi, for never giving up and standing up against the violence and intimidation of the fucked up Junta regime in Burma. U2 wrote 'Walk On' as a tribute to her.
People who stick their neck on their line for their beliefs despite true intimidation and abuse, and then go and do it again. That is serious courage. Think about it, could you do it? I'm not sure I could.
J.K. Rowling!! Seriously inspirational, regardless of whether Harry P rocks your boat!! That lass had a tough time before her books kicked off.
Audrey Hepburn - for her quiet determination in sticking to her guns in Hollywood, and for having such a beautiful soul until the day she passed away. I adored her.
Paula Yates - she always made me laugh, I love anyone who can do that. She was talented, beautiful, funny, sweet, bright and as sharp as a pin and to this day the best TV presenter I've ever seen. I admired her hugely. If I had ever met her, I would have given her the warmest hug possible and tried to sort her out.
