Hello, my name is Marmaduke Dando Hutchings. I am a singer and i write morose ballads, with an occasional sex line. I live in Holloway, north London, the centre of the known world. I love it here, it's neither bourgeois nor ghetto, or perhaps bordering on both. I am originally from Portsmouth, on the South Coast of England, and grew up in a small suburban village outside the city. I have been singing since i was 14, with various bands, in a hideous American accent, why why why, do people not notice this and tell you? Only years later I listen to some tape of a long forgotten rehearsal and become horrified at my shocking pronunciation. Perhaps i'm still doing it, i shan't know for a few more years!
I grew up on Britpop, though i don't listen to it much anymore, one should be worried if i did! Pulp and Ultrasound are responsible for everything, they were the ones that sewed the bitter seeds of musical aspiration, and it's their fault you're hearing my voice on this page now.
The music i love now is bossa nova, i hold Tom Jobim up as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, for all his simple beauty and colour. Also, lots of jazz standards, and possibly at odds with this, i love pop music, and i'm obsessed with the hook, the sex, and the perfect roundness of a well written catchy song, with some poignant words, encapsulated in a flawless and innovative production.
The songs above are by no means the intended end product, though i'm aware that some of them work in such a sparse habitat, and others do need a band behind them. I'm looking for members right now, see the list on the left for what roles are currently vacant. I want my band to sound like Nina Simone's band, the same energy in that band, and the same potential to go off on a tangent at the drop of an eyelid.
