About Me

The A-Z of Me (possibly): ambitious, busy, critical, dedicated, energetic, frank, glittery, healthy, imperfect, jaded, know-it-all (just kidding... but all the k's suck), loyal, memorable, nice, observer, perfectionist, quiet, restless, sensitive, truthful, unique, velvety, wary, xstraightedgex, youthful, zzzzz (tired from lack of sleep and too much Black Velvet work).
My (Black Velvet) life consists of going to and reviewing concerts, concert photography, interviewing, transcribing interviews, reviewing CDs, going through piles of CDs and sending the good ones to contributors to review, throwing the bad ones in an ever-growing pile, hassling the contributors for their reviews, laying out the reviews, interviews, photos and other stuff, updating the website, adding pages of photos to the website, maintaining the Black Velvet MySpace page, dealing with advertisers, making sure a new issue of Black Velvet hits the streets every three months, proofreading it before sending it to the printers, promoting Black Velvet, selling Black Velvet, sending Black Velvet to stores, subscribers, record and press companies and contributors, trying to find time to breathe (and sleep and eat)... oh and I have a day job too.
Mostly only adding friends/people I know. If I don't know you, go and add my photography or zine profile instead. Links below.
Got Livejournal? Add www.livejournal.com/users/blackvelvetmag I hate rice with a passion. Almost as much as I hate Air France.
Some Random facts:
I'm a Sagittarian with cancer rising and virgo moon.
I'm an only child.
I've been single forever.
I don't have an Ipod or an MP3 player.
I have a million CDs to review at all times.
I've been to USA 33 times. Japan 3 times. And a bunch of European cities a bunch of times.
I'm left handed.
I'm trying to think of the most boring facts about me ever.
I can't survive without hot water bottles & hair crimpers.
I hate rice with a passion. And tea. And Air France. Oh and beards and moustaches too.
Becoming vegan was the best thing I ever did.
I think you need to buy Black Velvet.
Go add the Black Velvet profile (click the pic below). It is way cooler than I am.

My Interests

BLACK VELVET - my zine, concerts, reviewing, interviewing, photography, velvet, travelling (USA - LA, NYC), collecting airmiles, animal rights, veganism (was vegetarian for 13 years before becoming vegan 4 years ago), straight edge, being bossy, wasting too much time on the net, glitter, hair straighteners & crimpers, trying to look cool (but sometimes failing dismally) and be an individual rather than following the pack, shyness, modesty, insecurity, guys with cool style and messy hair (or cool hair I can mess up), style, passion, ambition, spontaneity, gazing up at the stars, discovering future stars, monster platforms, anyone nice who doesn't use or copy others, shopping, finding bargains on ebay, hot water bottles, bubblewrap, staying up late, laughing at other people's spelling mistakes, AIM, pillow fights, finding money on the floor, magic 8 balls, mirrors, Red Devil, ruling the world, cheekbones, biting lips, oh and MySpace.

I'd like to meet:

Someone to gambol down steep hills with.

Television:

Rendez-View. Did it end? ...I don't really watch TV.

Books:

Too busy working on Black Velvet. www.blackvelvetmagazine.com Go there. Now.

Heroes:

Anyone who stands up for animal rights. People like Linda McCartney who really made a difference. Or tried to. People who work for, help out or support animal rights organisations like PETA, BUAV, VIVA!, SHAC, SPEAK, Animal Aid etc. My diabetic, epileptic dog Sammi who died on Sept 21, 2005... my best friend forever. My first dog Shep who died when I was 18. Fave Quote ATM: 'We won't lose our lives if we speak out against animal wrongs wherever we see them. But the animals do lose theirs if we don't. So we must.' - Ingrid Newkirk, PETA .
Charities & organisations that test HUMANELY and not on animals. Click here for a list of the charities that are good and bad: http://www.peta.org.uk/cmp/viv-charlist.asp . We're not living in the 16th century anymore. Animal tests are cruel and futile. Millions of people die every year from side effects of medicine tested on animals. Trusts like Dr Hadwen Trust fund humane research giving better, more accurate results -
