posted 2008-05-13The VELVETIANS (formerly known as VELLUTATA SINCRONICA) probably did the right thing when they decided to change their name in something easier to remember for non Italian speakers. After a few gigs in the UK, you can hear on this new three song CD that the band is still very much influenced by the British scene, first song “Black River Dolls†and second song “Velvetian No.1†are chaotic pop rock tunes with an old-school punk edge that can bring to mind the BABYSHAMBLES even though the VELVETIANS don't seem to be influenced by Doherty's band. Luckily the third song “Young Sparkling Morning†offers us a different side of the band, closer to elegant pop in the vein of SUEDE. Let’s hope that the band will head more in this direction in the future./Laurent.www.veglam.com
