Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Iosua Tai Taeoalii, 28 year old American/Samoan filmmaker and the founder of Weird Chief Pictures , has been a Producer, Director, Editor, and Cinematographer for feature films, television, commercial ads, corporate videos, music videos and indie DV productions for the last 8 years.
Taeoalii worked as a Producer and Editor for 52 episodes of the Ultimate Combat Experience . After his stint with Ultimate Combat, Taeoalii directed and edited several commercials and promotional event media for UFC's light heavy weight champions Randy Couture and Matt Lindland's MMA event Sportfight.
His recent television excursion was as a Producer, Editor, and Director of the critically acclaimed weekly television series 3.2 Percent. He produced an entire 11 episode season and realized his passion is in film, which has lead him to his current project. Feature film Toa: Legend of the Pacific, a $5 million feature in the Polynesian islands.
Taeoaliis feature films have received enthusiastic reviews from Deseret News, Salt Lake Tribune, City Weekly, and The Event, which compared Taeoalii and his work to Kevin Smith and American Graffiti. The Event, which has covered years of the Sundance Film Festival, is also quoted as saying, "Joshua Tai Taeoalii is a great talent in the next crop of cutting-edge filmmakers."
Taeoaliis feature film, Twice Today, premiered at Paramount studios on January 2001 at the prestigious AngelCiti Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. It also received the award for "Best Amateur Feature Film" at the 2001 Real to Reel Film Festival in North Carolina.
Taeoalli just finished a short film Waiting w/ producer and director of photography Jeremy Nielsen, which made it's premier at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival. It also screened at the 2006 15th Annual Arizona International Film Festival. Starring long time friend David Stevens. (Punch Drunk Love)
