Ebay Jamil Hamilton (his birth givin name) has surfaced.Ebay Jamil Hamilton, his birth given’ name, was born 11.27.77 to a bi-racial couple in Long beach, CA. A few years later his parents separated and his mother brought him back to her hometown in Utah. It was there that he would learn all he knows of life, love, and music. Because of the lack in cultural diversity within his now hometown of Salt Lake City, his mother exposed him to as much of the world as she could. She noticed early on that her son’s inverted personality was drawn to the arts. He was quickly placed in piano and trombone lessons, as well as various visual art classes at a young age. Rather shy and well reserved, no one could have predicted his now prominent place in Utah’s ever growing music scene.
At age 14, Ebay started an internship with a local community radio station, and by the time he was in his mid teens, was producing and hosting a weekly radio show that reached loyal listeners across the state. His first independent record release as a hip hop artist, Sugar House Chronicles, is now considered by many to be a classic album, as well as a pioneering step for Utah’s hip hop community. Never one to neglect his progress, Ebay Jamil went on to release 2 more impressive, independent records that were met with high praise and acclaim amongst local listeners and press. Both projects were with live bands, and still maintain there grass roots following years after there final pressings. First with Real Eyes, an eclectic, jazz influenced project, with fans popping up across the county from sheer word of mouth. Then, Ebay Jamil’s Modern Sol Movement, which in 2005 went on to win him the Salt Lake City “Slammy†for best Soul artist.
The thirsty ears of Utah have not only experienced Ebay’s music, they have also experienced his becoming. They have seen him on countless stages, and have heard him on FM dials for over a decade now and counting. Regardless of what may happen next, Ebay Jamil has already left his mark on many, as well as leaving miles of footprints behind for any needed proof of his veteran like status. Now in his late 20’s and embarking on his first national release, the highly anticipated and long overdue album Dusted, maybe the rest of the world can finally come to know what Utahns have known for years: Ebay Jamil is Dope.
Not only a name to remember, but a man, a mind, and a sound you won’t soon forget. Enjoy.Created with mySpace Profile Editor
