“In 1962, three men at the University of Oklahoma, led by the idiosyncratic, CIA-collaborator Louis Jolyon "Jolly" West, injected LSD into an elephant for the first time. Their stated intent was to determine if LSD would induce "musth", a naturally occurring condition in which elephants become violent and uncontrollable. After a series of events, the elephant died. There is some controversy and confusion surrounding the cause of death.â€
In the beginning, Jojo “Wooden Leg†Mojo, had a vision… a vision of a world dominated by music, love and recreational substances. During a summer night of 1945, he developed a strain of Vodka which enabled him to take control of a human being and do with them as he willed. With no musical virtuosity of his own, he decided to take control of the world through a band of such great freedom and love that the whole universe would be inspired to agree and finally achieve world peace. Upon his discovery, the puppet master Jojo “Wooden Leg†Mojo set out to find some unwitting musicians to use as his instruments…
Calvin Sargeant, known to his mother as CK Thunder, provided the rhythm skills Jojo needed to begin the foundations of his visionary band. Through Calvin, Jojo also encountered a wandering gypsy guitar player named Andrei Nosov. A native of Russia, Andrei had previously been an alcoholic tennis player, who provided hours of street entertainment performing top class volleys for beer money. Upon his relocation to England, his talents had quickly changed to that of a guitar virtuoso. During this period of time, a street urchin named Q stole a bass from Paul McCartney’s van under the influence of Double Dutch and Absinthe, and began pretending to learn the instrument. In a spontaneous, unrelated coincidence, the three musicians met whilst accidentally playing together onstage a cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Bike’. Upon seeing these three perform, Jojo kidnapped a keyboard player, one Adam Sweet, and injected his mind controlling Vodka into his bloodstream. Jojo set Sweet upon Andrei, seducing and injecting him also with the Vodka substance. All four were soon under the influence of Jojo “Wooden Leg†Mojo, and immediately gained talent and camaraderie. Elephants on Acid was born.
The four, although never actually setting eyes upon Jojo, stayed awake for ninety-three days not writing any songs whatsoever, until the day they found a cellar with a tape recorder; they wrote and recorded five songs in two minutes. To this day, the band has never caught so much as a glimpse of Jojo, who is believed to be an ancient and wise being. The result is a psychedelic-blues-powered-garage-rock sound, which, to any ears that hear it, immediately induces the effect of the Vodka, and an overwhelming sense of well being envelops any listener.
