The gospel music industry has yet to discover a hidden jewel in the city of Sumter, SC. Shonda English is a multi-gifted spiritual force to reckon with. She can compose traditional music to satisfy the most conservative church-goers. Then blend secular music with gospel on a track that make the young generation get their praise on. At the drop of a dime, Ms. English can complete this task from start to finish. She sings, just as thoroughly as she conceived the concept and labored over the format, she effectively delivers her gift to the listener. Shonda has proved that she is capable of hanging with the best of the the best in her genre. A self-taught performer in every right since the age of four, she has paid her dues. Sharing the stage with gospel music’s most elite; including Shirley Caesar, The Jackson Southernaires, The Sensational Nightingales, Margaret Allison and the Angelic Gospel Singers, Donald Lawrence and Tri-City, Ricky Dillard and New G, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, Doc McKenzie & The Hi-lites, and many more. Now she ready to share her debut CD with you!

Influences: Shonda’s father, Bishop W. T. English, made sure that she was surrounded by the many types of gospel music. Therefore, alot of her influences come from individuals LONG before her time. Some were deceased before she was born, yet, some made milestones during the course of her life. Fortunately, she was allowed the privilege to meet and even sing with some of them. Her influences: (living on earth and in paradise) James Cleveland, Milton Brunson’s Thompson Community Singers, Tyrone Block (Tommies’ director), Shirley Caesar, Walter and Edwin Hawkins, Andrae Crouch, Marvin Winans, and her father who was recording with HOB records at the time of Shonda’s birth as half of the gospel duo The Gospel Encores of Boston MA.
Sounds Like: Gospel meets Neo-soul. The music is tight but the message is even better. It's been confirmed by many, Shonda's music is for the broken. After allowing Shonda to minister to you by listening to the CD, you won't feel the same. You will know that you can make it in spite of what it looks like, feels like, or seems like. You'll know that you are MORE than a conqueror!
